So embarrassed, but I need advice
So DH and I got a save the date yesterday.
We have NO idea who these people are.
The names ring, MAYBE a bell. But we both squarely don't recall these people.
I know my family REALLY well and don't know these people.
Asked my DH parents. They did not get one and don't know who they are.
I found their phone number last night on the internet and called, they weren't home and I didn't leave a message.
I have to call don't I? We def got a "wrong" invite a few years ago for someone looking for someone with same name as DH.
Also, we don't have a common last name, yet they spelled our names wrong on the invite.
So we think we might have been invited by accident.
DO I just suck it up and call?

I would call and say the invite came ripped/ wet and you can't see the name or something like that. Blame the condition of the invite and you should be able to find out through that conversation

i wouldn't do anything. it is just a save the date. If you get a wedding invite, see if it is addressed to your names, or if they made a mistake. then you can call

Re: So embarrassed, but I need advice
This post reminds me of a funny story.. One of DHs friends told him a neighbor was invited by accident to someone's wedding.
The invitation was supposed to go to "123 Main St"(i dont know the street) in Bellmore but actually landed at "123 Main St" in Patchogue instead. The couple who lived in Patchogue actually showed up to the wedding with gift and all!! The wedding was so big the bride and groom each assumed the couple must have been related to someone else, etc and it wasnt until after they got the pictures and saw seat assignments that they realized the mistake...

I don't understand how this could happen.. Did the people receiving the invitation have the same name by chance??? Why didn't they realize they didn't know the people being married?? And lastly, most weddings have seating arrangements posted- How did they find "theirs" if they weren't invited?? And the RSVP??

I am not sure if they had same name or just the street names got mixed up...but the couple clearly crashed the wedding and didnt care..DHs friend said they knew planned to crash but felt it was polite to at least bring a gift..

That's what I would do. If you, get a real invite, it will either have a phone number or email to respond to to tell them they have the wrong people. Or just write that on the little RSVP card and send it back.

I don't really see how you can accidentally invite someone to your wedding. If its your address and your name (even if misspelled) I don't see how it could be a mistake. Maybe someone a parent knows? My MIL gave me her guest list. If there was a mistake in how a name was spelled or she had someone on the list she didn't mean to invite I never would have known because I had no idea who these people were.
So, I wouldn't do anything and if you get an invite, just decline.

This happened to my parents. Turned out it was a neighbors daughter's wedding. They didn't know what to do and waited it out. When the neighbor asked if they got it, they made the connection.

Re: So embarrassed, but I need advice
I wouldn't do anything because it's a save the date. See if they send a wedding invitation. It could have been sent to the wrong address maybe intended for someone else. This happened to me and dh once, we got an invite to surprise 60th birthday party for someone we didn't know and our parents didn't know. I actually called the rsvp number and left a message stating they must hav send it to the wrong person. We have a sort of common last name so I think they just looked up our last name on white pages and sent it meant for another person with the same last name

Can you upload the pic and search through Google image? If they have social media, a wedding website, etc., you may get a hit!

Tried that already. I have not found a registry, a wedding website, nothing. I found her on FB and friended her (with no response yet).
