So confused

I am supposed to start injections next cycle. I just went to the RE today and he told me this, but he did not explian it in depth. He said to call and set up an appointment when I get my period, which should be sometime next week.

He then brought me to the nurses to start ordering the meds, but again no one really explained what we were ordering. This was only my second RE appointment so I was too upset to think about asking a ton of questions.

When I get home, I get a call from some random pharmacy that they have the meds and when do I want them delivered? I have no idea when I need them. Plus the copay is $150 and there are 3 injections! Do I have to do 3 a day? Its now too late to call the office and I am sure they are closed tomorrow. Plus I really don't want to think about all this tomorrow.

The RE also said I have to go in to the office 3 times a week to be monitored....I am still not sure I will be able to do this with work.

okay - try not to worry. do you remember the names of the meds? it is possible that you will have to do three a day but I promise you they are not bad at all. Is this for IUI? I only did clomid with my IUI cycle so I am not as familiar with the IUI meds but with IVF there are three a day. All of the needles are very small and it will only take you a matter of minutes to do each of them.

Where do you go? I know at north shore they don't give you a ton of information up front but they will give you instructions for each step along the way and keep you well informed. For me, that was a good approach because I never felt too overwhelmed with information.

The appts do suck but hopefully they will work with you to make the appts around your work schedule. I know with IVF my appts were all at around 7am, that way I could get home in time so that my husband could make his train.

Good luck and try to enjoy the holidays!!!

Try not to worry. I go to LI-IVF (not sure where you are going). They had the meds delivered before I knew what meds were coming and what I was doing with them. The nurse explained everything before I started though. You will understand it all in the end. You can always call a on-call nurse if they have them.

Good luck!

There are many different ways that REs do the "injection" cycle for IUI and I'm sure yours was chosen for you individually with your lab results in mind. Mine was only with follistim and the Ovidrel trigger (which is one injection that has about a $40 copay alone for me).

The reason they have pharmacies deliver meds early is because sometimes they are out of stock and will have to get the med from another source (this is really bad if you NEED to use the med everyday), and because by the time you get your period... it's too late to call the pharmacy & arrange a delivery.

Yup... copays are high. I've paid a lot. Find out if you have a flex-plan at work that you could put tax-free moneys into, that you can then use against your co-pays.

They will have you take an injection course before you start (to know how to use all the different fun sharp things & where to put them). Take things ONE STEP AT A TIME: it can get overwhelming. they will explain what the meds are for then... realistically, you are going to take all of them anyway... because they are chosen for you.

And about work... I agree... it's a tough one. Find out all office locations & their hours. The best thing is if you could go before hand (I start work extremely early, so I couldn't). I tried to do them when it would fit into my work schedule (this made things lots slower).

I scheduled my IVF for a vacation. It way the only way. Too much monitoring and last-minute information. I had to tell a select supervisor by that point because the true heavy activity is 2 weeks (every other or every day).

Good luck...don't worry, the crying stops and remember: one step at a time.
