So at six weeks exactly

I have morning sickness. I have not vomited yet, fingers crossed that I won't, but man do I feel queasy.

So I have a few of questions.

1) what do you do to help settle your stomach

2) Is this an all day thing, or will it go away later on in the day.

3) What can I do to prevent morning sickness, if anything?

4) I am driving up to New York in about an hour, is the car ride going to make it worse?

Thanks! Chat Icon

My friends hail me the MS queen since this is my 3rd pregnancy that I will be barfing all the way till I deliver.

1) what do you do to help settle your stomach-Ginger ale, lemonade, crackers always helped

2) Is this an all day thing, or will it go away later on in the day.- For me the time of day didn't matter. I barf morning, noon, in the middle of the night

3) What can I do to prevent morning sickness, if anything?- I find if I don't eat enough my MS is worse. I know that sounds weird but sometimes having an empty stomach makes you more queasy. Especially in the am. Try to eat even if you are naseous.

4) I am driving up to New York in about an hour, is the car ride going to make it worse? The car doesn't make me more sick but I do vomit while driving on occasion. Have lots of plastic bags with you.

Thank you so much for the response! I will stop and get the ginger ale and crackers on my way up north. Chat Icon

1) what do you do to help settle your stomach?

It started for me at exactly 6 weeks also. Ice cold ginger ale, crackers, bagels and ice water with lemon helped me a little.

2) Is this an all day thing, or will it go away later on in the day?

For me it was all day, it even got worse in the evening sometimes. But, everyone is different so you may not have it like that.

3) What can I do to prevent morning sickness, if anything?

I don't think you can do anything (well, I couldn't). The only thing is not to get yourself starving. As soon as you feel the teeniest bit hungry, EAT! Always have crackers, snacks with you. I also realized a few weeks later that a lot of the queasiness had to do with my prenatal so I switched to flinstones which helped a little.

4) I am driving up to New York in about an hour, is the car ride going to make it worse?

For me, actually getting out and doing something, going somewhere took my mind off it a little. I sometimes felt sick in the car but no more than sitting at home.

You'll get through it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: So at six weeks exactly

I am sorry you are feeling so sick. I am 31 weeks tomorrow and have not had one day without M/S!! Dr says at this point it wont go away until after I have the baby. But that is very rare and hopefully by the 2nd trimester you will feel much better. Most people do!!!

1) what do you do to help settle your stomach?

It started for me @ about 7 weeks and really got worse @ 12 weeks. Carbs is what helped me and is why I gained weight in the first trimester. That seemed to be the best thing for me. I had to feed the nausea. Once I got into the second trimester coke would help me when I was bad too.

2) Is this an all day thing, or will it go away later on in the day?

For me it is mostly the mornings. Never in the middle of the night and if it did happen in the day it was bc i was too hungry.

3) What can I do to prevent morning sickness, if anything?

For me nothing prevented it except for not drinking anything until I ate lunch (which i am not advocating). In the beginning i was so used to drinking coffee so I would still drink decaf and I would get sick. Then I thought it was just coffee so I tried juice, choc milk, water...etc and I found that any liquid was a big trigger. Even the milk in cereal, oatmeal etc.
So now I stick to very dry breakfast unless I am eating a HUGE breakfast and no liquids with such a light dry breakfast

4) I am driving up to New York in about an hour, is the car ride going to make it worse?

I agree with what the previous poster said about getting out sometimes takes your mind off of it, but sometimes it doesnt. And yes, if I felt sick at home was going to feel sick in the car and vica versa.

Like I said it is rare to feel sick your whole pregnancy so you probably wont be like me!!!!

Good luck and I HTH!Chat Icon

Ice cold ginger ale, crackers, bagels with nothing on them, pastina... and eating constantly all day tiny bits.

mine was all day and WORSE at night because i worked midnights so technically it was my mornings but anyway it was all day..Chat Icon

3) What can I do to prevent morning sickness, if anything?
def. no way to prevent just ease it with the things i wrote to settle my tummy.

4) I am driving up to New York in about an hour, is the car ride going to make it worse?
it might...bring all the above with you and a bunch of plastic bags just in case... driving never made me too sick but flying killed me!

have a safe trip!Chat Icon
