So Angry about this- Update- it get worse!
When we got home our neighbors informed us we had a power surge one night and that everyone lost some appliances. Luckily our plasma TV survived but we lost our 13 month old washer, dryer and electric water heater- cost to replace since they were a month out of warrenty- $1500
We luckily have a block party on Sat so we are going to tally of list of the losses suffered and send in a claim to Cal Edison. Since there were so many victims of this surge, our electrican says we have a good shot but who knows.
It has been such a hassle coming home from vacation with a pile of dirty clothes and no washer. Our next door neighbor did lose his fridge so we shared ours and he shared his washer.
This is the LAST thing we needed financially- I haven't gotten a paycheck in 6 months and money so tight. I am actually happy to go back to work- we really need the money. 
UPDATE: Turns out the surge was caused by a drunk driver hitting the power pole- and in the paper today it said hundreds lost appliances and the mayor decided we need to file with the driver since he was at fault. We sent him a letter with our damages(the first step in small claims) but you know we will never get a dime even if we sue him. He's only 21 and lives with his parents 3 blocks away I want to strangle this guy- thank God he didn't kill someone that night but he did cause millions in damages!

That sucks!!! We had that happen once, but frtuantely our bog appliances weren't effected, but all of our house phones, answering machine and Roomba were broken. We called the companies who made them and explained the situation and they actually sent us replacements.

WOW~ that was nice! Our appliance store out here wasn't so nice about it

I am so sorry
I KNOW this isn't the best way to do it, but could you go to Sears and open a CC and charge them and pay them off slowly or when you get the money back from Cal Edison? Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Happened to me when I was living in my apartment. LILCO (at the time) paid for a new microwave.

Nope- they are not covered since it was caused by an outside incident.

It just keeps gettin better Tonight I tried to use both our microwave and DVD player and you guessed it- FRIED!
I have no idea how we are going to afford to replace all this junk. I think we are going to have make due, at least until we have some income from me coming in next month

If you want my hubby has great hookups with PC Richards- his friend got us a $900 dish washer for $99 because it had the TINIEST Dent!

Thank you so much But we live in LA- we already bought a new washer and dryer on a payment plan with our local place and the other stuff we will have to wait. My BIL is going to see if he has his old microwave in storage for us to have. It just makes me so angry that we are going through all this aggreviation and loss for some moron who wanted to drink and drive. This from a state that gives an actress two days in jail for TWO DUI's! No wonder it still happens

Can you file through his car insurance company for property damages? Going after the individual probably isn't going to do anything, but I bet his car insurance can handle it.
