SO....

I was at my friends house one day and a cop showed up. He said he was investigating a theft of a laptop. The people were driving a similar car as my friend. But the Plate # was different. My friend pointed out how her plates were rusted on to the car and the rust had run down the plate. Its not going to be easy to get them on and off and it's also not going to be easy to change them fast. Pluse it was teenage boys and she is a 30 year old adult.

Her dog nipped at his finger. She ran out of the house and while yes I could understand a 20 pound unfamiliar dog running up to you would be scary he backhanded her. When she got hit she nipped at him. I was there I saw it NO HOLE NO BLOOD NO RED MARK. The cop called for back up for a dog bite. 7 cops showed up and I personally heard one say you are going to waste our time and their time on paper work theres nothing there.

A few days later animal control showed up at her house. Now she was just served papers he is suing them.

This is not a lets put cops down thread. They have a rough job and im thankful that they protect me and my house but.... Come one Chat Icon

Yikes, that does seem a bit extreme to me.

I gotta tell you, I'd sue the cop for backhanding my dog. I'd call it animal cruelty. Chat Icon

Re: SO....

I'm confused...the cop approached the dog and the dog nipped at him?

or was it that the dog nipped at him without provocation?

________
#1 - Cops will always show up to a scene if there is an officer in distress. While this certainly was not distress, the cop felt threatened by the dog.

#2 - Some people are AFRAID of dogs. I know it's hard for some to understand, but no matter how small a dog is, it is a terrifying experience to some, and we have to respect that.

#3 - It's mandatory to file a report if officers are called onto a 'scene' and it was probably moved up to Animal Control to deal with it.

#4 - Only in America...we sue EVERYONE!

#5 - Cop is full of it...I'm disgusted that he would take advantage of the situation like that for his own fincial gain. Shame on him!

unfortunately, you'd never get away with it... by law, you're required to leash your dog, and so the fact that her dog ran out of the house - she's responsible for whatever the dog "does".
that being said, just like with any other job - there are good eggs and rotten apples. he sounds like a rotten apple. yes, there ARE some people, including cops who are deathly afraid of dogs, regardless of the size (i know of 2 cops i work with offhand, who are) - but still, after the fact of him backhanding the dog (prob his natural reaction) and it nipping at him (the dogs natural reaction) - if there was nothing there, then there was nothing there. why make a mountain out of a molehill? that's pathetic, IMO. but like others said, it has nothing to do with the profession... there are people i work with that won't go near a dog, i on the other hand, am busy playing with the dogs in the houses while my partner handles some of the people Chat Icon everyone's different and it has nothing to do with the job, it just has to do with as a person, he's ridiculous.
