Re: Snowblower
there are many out there. Do a search on LIF and you'll find a couple of threads about this. My suggestions have always been make sure its 2 stage and keep up with oil changes and they will all last. Also Lowes and HD are not always the cheapest. You can score a good deal online. I personally and not a man of Craftsman blowers. the biggest advice I can give you is DO NOT get and electric blower.
How big of an area do you need to blow snow from?

Re: Snowblower
Why stay away from electric?
We are moving to a rental house and didn't want to invest much to do the walk/deck/driveway and they seem like reasonably priced options.
I really don't want to invest $400+ right now since we aren't in this home long term...... the prices of the electrics running about $150ish seems appealing and I only need to get 3 winters tops from it..

Re: Snowblower
I've had an electric, although I don't think you're looking at ones the size of what I had.
I had an electric that was around $250-$300 a toro. It works just fine for snow between 2-6 inches, beyond that, its realitively useless. Additionally, it really doesn't like doing/can't do, the driveway after the plow comes by. Its handy or smaller walks and light snow, but definately I had to supplement with shoveling when the going got tough.
We still have it, I have since bought a single stage gas, which works significantly better, however, still for the BIG snow storms 12+ I find it somewhat lacking.
