Smithtown to North Carolina
Can anyone give me any info on good schools, and family neighborhoods to look at in NC? I Am trying to find something comparable to where i am here(Smithtown), but again have no idea where to start looking. So if anyone has moved there, or is considering it and looked around,Can you tell me some good areas to start looking into? TIA

City-data.com is a good site to find out about schools once you do find an area that you like...as far as finding "THAT" area, sorry I'm no help!

We live in Indian Trail, NC which is in Union County. It's about 15 minutes from Charlotte. The schools are excellent...I used to teach before I had DD. The website for the schools is http://www.ucps.k12.nc.us/
Please let me know if you have any questions!

Calabash, and/or Carolina Shores is very nice in NC. You are 15 minutes from the border of South Carolina and right near Myrtle Beach. My in-laws and brother in law live there now AND my mother-in-law, formely from Massapequa is a real estate agent now in NC and I'm sure can help you if you are interested. Let me know!

We almost bought in Waxhaw which is right outside of Charlotte..LOVED it there ! The peticular developement we were buying in was Wesley Oaks...Most of the neighborhood was transplants ( from NY )
We ended up having issues selling in NY so it never panned out , but I highly reccomend it there

Re: Smithtown to North Carolina
We're considering moving to the Charlotte area of NC. We really like Union County (Marvin, Weddington, Waxhaw, Wesley Chapel) and all of these have really good school districts.
We also like the South Charlotte area known as Ballantyne. The high school there, Ardrey Kell is one of the best.
Taxes are cheaper in Union, than in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte), but its still a huge difference than what we pay here.
Here is the Union County schools website: Union County Schools
My favorite real estate website for the area: Loving Charlotte Real Estate

How is Hoover St, in Indian Trails?
Hoover Street is in a community called Lake Park. It's a nice community with lots of ammenties. We're about 5 minutes from there.

This is a good site to search for homes in the area....you can choose Union County and then specific neighborhoods. http://www.carolinahome.com/

There are positions available depending on your field. Growth has really slowed down due to the economy. We used to have 2 or more schools opening each year but this has slowed. When we moved 3 years ago my DH and I had no problem finding jobs.
Lake Park has a pool and several playgrounds even a pond. There are also businesses in the community. We loved it there but it was only resale and townhouses when we bought and we wanted new construction.

This is hysterical! We live in Indian Trail as well! We actually LOVED Lake Park when we saw it...the houses are on the smaller side (most of them) by NC standards, and we were looking for something with 5 bedrooms. (Lake Park DOES have a pool and several playgrounds...it also has its own little "Main Street", that's where my Dr. is).
I teach for Union County. Right now, the job market is slow, and we are looking at a lot of job cuts for next year.
Overall, we like it here. It IS an adjustment. We still miss NY, more for the proximity than actually living there. If any of you ever come to the area (Weddington/Waxhaw/Wesley Chapel is about 5 minutes from us, I actually have family in Wesley Oaks), hit me up and I'll show you around.
