We just moved to smithtown and my kids will go to west.. I have not really heard that one was better than the other..

I have 2 children in the district (ages 10 and 15) and do not believe there is a difference. East was reopened only a few years ago, due to population increases. But given the current state of the real estate market, and the population shift off of Long Island , it's entirely conceivable that the schools could be again combined. In fact, the district closed an elementary school this past year ( we went from 9 elementary schools to 8).

we're in west but my kids won't go to hs for 10 years... a lot can change in 10 years!
