Smells like mildew...

We have a spare bathroom- which is never used... (seriously we've lived here for 2 yrs and have never taken a shower in their- and the only time the toliet gets used is by guests)

However I clean it weekly like I do my other bathroom (which gets used regularly) Im beyond a clean freak... so when I say cleaned- I mean every nuk and crany gets scrubbed...

Since we have lived here the bathroom has always had a scent to it... Usually no one else can smell it and everyone thinks Im crazy...

Today a friend noticed it and is convinced its mildew... we both looked high and low for the "sight" of it... however couldnt find any traces... I am now convinved there is mildew in the walls or something...

How do I go about this? I rent- so do I call my maintenance and say I smell mildew??? Is there anything i can do- to try and fix it myself???

It seems whenever the person above or next to me showers...the scent is much stronger than usual...

Is there a fan in the bathroom?

If so, open the fan and see if there is a collection of dust and moisture that needs to be cleaned out. This is what happened to us and once we cleaned the exhaust and fan, things were fine.

Also look in the toilet tank and maybe get one of those things you leave in the tank to make it smell good. Get one with bleACH.
