Smartphone purchase

My 1 yo iPhone 5c fell and died. I don't have insurance. This is my first smartphone and until last year I used a flip phone and my work iPhone.

I went to the Verizon store and my jaw dropped when I saw the prices of iPhones. I guess I must be really naive but I had no idea they are so expensive.

What are my options for a phone no more than $200? I looked on Amazon and found certified refurbished 5c for 165$.

I just can't believe that our society, entire families rely on such expensive products these days!

Try Staples. I was just there today and got a printout of the phones and prices. They have some inexpensive iPhones if that's what you want (less than $100). Says something about a two year activation or something - you can clarify that with them. But definitely look into it.
