Sleeping Position
My DS has not yet learned to fully roll over on his own...however really prefers to sleep on his stomach. I know you are supposed to keep them on their back, but last night was torturous! He would NOT sleep on his back and screamed when we tried to put him down. Eventually, DH put him down on his belly, and presto...he was out in a second! What are your opinoins on letting them sleep on their bellies?...pros/cons? I feel like this is the only way he is comfortable these days!

Re: Sleeping Position
Clover takes naps on her belly. She loves to sleep on her knees against a hard pillow on the couch. We only do it when we can monitor her constantly though. I would never put her in the crib like that for the night because god forbid something happened I could never forgive myself.
She also loves to snuggle her face into clothing and blankets which also freaks me out.

Re: Sleeping Position
Tyler takes naps alwaya on his belly. He always has his head to the sides...and flips his head sometimes too...he has never had his face down since we started him on his belly for naps. I am nervous that I can't monitor him continuously through the night, but I truly feel like this is how he wants to sleep, but I am so nervous! I just dont know what to do anymore.

Re: Sleeping Position
I sleep Lucas on his belly - have since he was 5 weeks old and will do it again for the next baby.
It's all a matter of what you are comfortable with. There is no right or wrong - it's up to you. We did a lot of research before making the decision and thought long and hard on it. Best decision we made because Lucas sleeps so well. In the beginning I would check on him often to make sure he was okay.
There are usually a ton of negatives listed so I will post the pros:
Better, longer sleep Easier transition for tummy time Promotes faster development of pushing up the upper body Reduced chance of flat head

ITA, this is also what we did.
DS has been sleeping on his tummy since about 7 weeks old. I think part of the reason I was comfortable with him tummy sleeping so young is because he was in his bassinett in our room until about 4 months old (we were still getting his nursery read in our new house)
He started to roll over on his own by 3 months.
It depends on what you are comfortable with.

Thanks girls! We have had him napping on his belly for the last month and a half, and he sleeps SO well. We usually start him on his belly when he initially goes to sleep, and he stays sleeping so well. I am going to try it tonight and keep him on his belly. Wish me luck!

Some things that I found helpful:
Remove the bumpers but replace with the breathable bumpers. Something should be there so that he doesn't get an arm or leg stuck.
Remove all items from the crib.
Use a sleep sack for warmth - doesn't cause a problem for movement.
Keep the monitor close by the baby (I used to put it in the corner of the crib). It helped that I could hear his movements in the beginning so I could get a better feeling of when I really did need to check on him.
Check on him as often as you want...if Lucas was quiet I checked on him, if he was moving I checked on him...and all the times in between.
Good Luck!
ETA: One more thing...try to put on a PJ that has a v-neck or loose neckline so that it doesn't pull with his movement. I no longer stress over this anymore but in the beginning my ped recommended it...just something that exposes the neck a little more in the front so he has the space if he moves around.

Re: Sleeping Position
He sleeps on his side or his belly for naps throughout the day and on his back TIGHTLY SWADDLED at night. In the mornings when he starts to fuss from the daylight coming in, I switch him over to his belly and he gives me another 2 hours. I am not comfortable overnight yet. He moves his head side to side like a pro, but when he tries to get comfortable and get settled he rubs his face in the sheets/mattress like a lunatic so he cannot go face down just yet at night.
