Sleeping on your back

When are you supposed to stop sleeping on your back?

I'm gonna miss it.

Re: Sleeping on your back

In "your pregnancy week by week" it says 16 weeks. I have been trying to do it for a week now and it isn't easy!

I heard about it recently. It has something to do with restricting a nerve or blood flow or something to the baby.

Re: Sleeping on your back

My doctor said you dont have to stop. The main artery is slightly to the side of your spine and it wont affect the baby. Ask your doctor if you are unsure.

Re: Sleeping on your back

By week 30 that back sleeping went to hell in a handbasket for me.... I woke up almost every morning on my back straight until I delivered!!!!!!

Our Lamaze instructor said it is a precaution for women who have weak placental lines...... and not to stress if you wake up on your back.....

I think you stop when you don't feel comfortable anymore.

I am 24 weeks and still sleep on my back.

Re: Sleeping on your back

I try to sleep on my side but always end up on my back. I can't win. I am trying to get used to sleeping on my side.

Re: Sleeping on your back

Two pg's i slept on my back til the 30's week marks, basically until it hurt to do so.

As long as you aren't having complications back sleeping is fine.

Re: Sleeping on your back

I never did before, but oddly enough I wake up on my back fairly often lately. I think my sides get sore during the night, and I probably flip onto my back because it's more comfortable.

I'm 24 weeks and know it's not the best, but it's hard to control wha tyou do while asleep!

I don't think back sleeping can really do any harm if you are having a healthy pregnancy...

Re: Sleeping on your back

I was never much of a back sleeper anyway, but I find that now, at 23 weeks, I am short of breath when I lay on my back.

I think if you are in a position that is making it tough to breathe or move, your body will let you know.
