Sleeping on side?

Does anyone know when you should start sleeping on your side (left) My doctor told me in the beginning it's fine to sleep any way. But, she never told me around when to switch positions

Re: Sleeping on side?

The books say 16 weeks, my baby calendar says 18 weeks and my doctor says 20 weeks!! Chat Icon

I'm usually a side sleeper anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me, but I've noticed lately I wake up and my left hip hurts.

The snoogle helps me a lot.

I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs to sleep on my side too.

My hips were killing me and I had pain in my sciatica. The pillow (regular pillow) helped a lot.

Re: Sleeping on side?

LOL.....I have tried from the start to sleep on my side, and here I am 15 weeks and still a stomach sleeper. I reccomend sleeping on your side as early as you can so by the time you "pop", you are used to it.

Re: Sleeping on side?

If I don't sleep on my left I can feel the difference in my legs the next dayChat Icon... can be very sore and achey. It's a bit scarey how it affects my circulation. If I roll over to my right any more than a couple of minutes, I'll wake up with really bad leg cramps.

Even while watching tv, I have to be on my left side.

Re: Sleeping on side?

I think you will know when to start sleeping on your side. I never asked but just couldnt do it anymore on the belly. It was very uncomfortable once you reach that point where you cant anymore.

Re: Sleeping on side?

I do believe it's 16 weeks or so.

BUT, with DD, and this pg, i plan on sleeping any way i can! If you are not high risk, you can sleep anyway you are comfy.

Believe me your body will let you know if your sleeping position is off, it hurts!

I slept on my back til i was about 30 weeks with DD, after that, the weight was too much, it hurt.

I had no choice but to sleep on my sides and it was a PIA flippin over to the other side with that tummy in the way!

Re: Sleeping on side?

I have been sleeping on my side for most of by PG- but mainly for PG related sinus issues. I have 2 big pillows to keep my head level so there's really no other way to sleep. (My nose gets stuffed if my head isn't elevated.)

As far as my Dr- he told me at my last appt that I should start sleeping on my side. I was about 24 wks.
