Sleeping on my back...
My husband and I read in a book and heard that sleeping on your back is not good after the 4th month because it can cut off circulation. Has anyone else heard of this and does it effect anyone else? My DH wakes me up all night long to get off my back. I can't sleep! Anyone?? Thanks!

Re: Sleeping on my back...
As long as you are not lying flat on your back it is ok. Just make sure you are using a pillow or two and I was told it is fine to lay on your back.

Re: Sleeping on my back...
Yes it's true. Now that i am later in my pregancy i find that lying on my back causes me to find it harder to breathe believe it or not. I try to mix my positions (left/right side) up or they go numb.

Re: Sleeping on my back...
I seriously HATE sleeping - I dread it for this reason. I wake up every morning sleeping on my back or 1/2 on my stomach and it makes me paranoid and so scared - I have horrible nightmares and I wake up miserable b/c of the lack of sleep!
Anyone have any suggestions on how not to roll over???

What works for me is hugging a pillow. Either a regular one or a snoogle. I actually stay in one position too long and wake up with my hip sore.

Re: Sleeping on my back...
I agree with the suggestion of getting a Snoogle or another type of body/pregnancy pillow .. I noticed early on that I was sleepig on my back a LOT and I knew it wasn't good. But once I got the snoogle, it has helps keep me in position and I remain mainly on my left side ... I still roll over partly onto my back sometimes but its not nearly as bad now ..
And the snoogle is SOO comfy! Even my Dh wants one!

Re: Sleeping on my back...
I just read in a pregnancy magazine last night that the reason to not sleep on your back has to do with your comfort and circulation but that it does not endanger the baby.
The article said to not worry about it- if you wake up on your back just roll over but that it is worse to worry and lose sleep over it then to sleep on your back.

Thank goodness you said that! Every morning I wake up on my back (even with a comfy snoogle!) and I think I am suffocating the baby. That is reassuirng that I am only suffocating myself!

Re: Sleeping on my back...
I slept on my back the ENTIRE pregnancy. Dr said it was OK to do this...she said that if the baby was uncomfortable or something that I could feel it and could move and she said as long as I didnt have pins and needls or numbness anywhere it was OK. Even 9 mos PG I was most comfortable on my back.

I did the same, except i stopped at about the end of 8 months pg. It was too painful for me to sleep on my back all night.

I have this too still...my dr basically said your body will tell you when its bad, too...it'll hurt if you lay on your tummy even a little.....in the meantime I bought two body pillows (they were like 10 dollars each at lnt...) and cushion myself on each side at night....sounds funny...my dh calls it the baby cocoon but it works for me!!

Re: Sleeping on my back...
I was worried about back sleeping too, but my Dr. told me they advise you not to because it becomes hard to breath. She said as long as I'm confortable not to worry about it. I do try to sleep on my sides, but I don't stress it if I can only get comfy on my back.
