sleep question--for those not on a set routine
I have never really been one to stick to a strict routine, although my DD does have a general routine. (specific time and place of naps vary, but she usually gets at least 2 good naps a day, 1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon evening.)
Sleeping at night is a struggle only if I try to force her into a routine. For a long time, I tried really hard to give her a bed time, put her down in her crib, etc. She fought tooth and nail and although I tried CIO, it never really worked, unless you count having to do CIO every night as working. (in other words, she never got to the point where you would put her down, and she would fall asleep without crying hysterically for about 20 minutes.)
I gave in to a point and would let her fall asleep in her swing, and then transition her to her crib. This was working for awhile, but I was getting concerned about her outgrowing the swing. She also had to fall asleep to einstein, which I don't want her to need to sleep.
Recently, I've tried not forcing her to go to sleep- in her swing or otherwise, until she really seems ready, which for her is very late (about 10:00) She plays calmly until then--cruising around our living room, going through her books, playing with toys. At a certain point, she seems cranky/tired, and if I put her in her crib then, she doesnt cry while Im in the room with her (she always cried before as soon as she hit her crib, whether or not i was in the room) and when I leave, she does cry for 2-5 minutes, but then falls asleep and sleeps through the night until about 6:30-7:30. (When I'd force her to bed earlier, she wouldn't sttn, and would wake up about 2-3 times and cry anywhere from 5min to an hour.) Anything wrong with this? I know most babies sleep more at night, but she is happy as can be on this much sleep. She's not cranky or fussy at all during the day.
