Sleep Hell
My almost 5 mth old is trying to torture me  Up until a few weeks ago, she was sleeping most of the night, waking up once around 3-4am. She was also in the rock n play next to my bed. A couple of weeks ago we decided to transition her to the crib. I will put her in the crib when she's tired / sleepy. Rub her belly and wait until she falls asleep to leave. Put the sound machine on for her. She has the pacifier when she falls asleep, and usually she is swaddled but I also have tried not swaddling her as well. She wakes up around 12 - 1 am crying and I go in and give her the pacifier and she will usually fall back asleep. This game goes on all night, she wakes up EVERY hour sometimes every half hour crying. When I wait it out she doesn't stop crying it just gets louder. I've tried not swaddling to see if it makes a difference and it doesn't.
I am so tired and at my wits end what can i do??? I don't think I'm ready for CIO but if she doesn't stop then I guess I'll be willing to try anything!!

This was me word for word. Every single time my DS would drop the paci he would cry for me. At 5 months I decided to CIO. I put him down with the paci and in the middle of the night if he cried I would let him. Nothing worked. I talked to my ped, and she said I was confusing my son with the paci -- giving it sometimes (to fall asleep) but not in the night. So we had to go cold turkey on the binky with CIO... WOW...hardest few days of my life, but after about 3 nights he STTN with nothing, and pretty much has since (knock on wood). GOOD LUCK

5 months is old to still swaddle. Break the swaddle habit first. My guess is when she can freely move around, she'll find a more comy position to soothe herself. Can she put a paci in her mouth herself? Try leaving a bunch throughout the crib so she can find it when she loses one.

I've tried not swaddling and have the same outcome....she can put the paci in her mouth I can try to leave a few in the crib. I haven't tried putting her to sleep on her stomach, maybe that would help.

Agreed! I found when I transitioned that a sleep sack helped a lot, its kind of a wear-able blanket so they still feel something is "on" them but not too tight.
And sleep patterns constantly change (for me at least) just when you sense a routine they mess it up just to torture your life as you say!

Definitely break the swaddle habit so she can self-soothe by paci, or even her hand. I bought my son a breathable lovey by Aden and Anais. That seems to help too.

I dealt with that at twins until 8 months & then did CIO.
If she is spitting binky out, try taking away now. I have one that still takes it & it's become a problm. My boys now 2 1/2. We only use at night though.
