Skilled writers and grammer aficionados
I have been a SAHM for the past 5 yrs and it's time for me to head back to work. I have quickly come to realize that I have become a sloppy writer and my grammer has certainly fallen to the waist side. Do you have any recommendations for websites, tutorial videos, etc that can help me sharpen up my skills?
Thanks so much!

Grammarly (www.grammarly.com) is an excellent learn as you go/learn from your mistakes program and very organic.

Re: Skilled writers and grammer aficionados
I would suggest purchasing English 3200. It is basically like taking a course but all in a book. Most frames (the book is followed by frames, not pages) have a question with the answer in the next frame.
You can also purchase Strunk and White's The Elements of Style. Some of the information is a bit antiquated, but that is not the case for most. The first chapter contains an array of comma rules. Reviewing Purdue OWL's Comma Usage page is also helpful.
It's also important to know the major common errors. For example, the word "data" is plural; you should write, "The data are" or "The data show," not "The data is" or "The data shows."

No, but it is "fall by the wayside" not "waist side"! Butchered idioms are a pet peeve of mine. Like "Nip it in the butt" instead of "bud" etc.

Or down packed instead of down pat.

So not necessary.

Ha! Thank you, I agree but am used to it. She has done it to me a number of times over the years. Although, she has beautifully brought the point of my post across.

Lol, I was going to say something, but then I thought maybe it was an autocorrection. My smartphone changes words on me a lot, even replacing correctly spelled words. It also bothers me when people say weary, but they really mean either wary or leary.

I've done it to you a number of times over the years?? Who knew.
I'm not trying to be snarky, I was trying to be helpful believe it or not. I mean, you are asking for writing assistance here, I thought you would appreciate the tip.

I actually did appreciate it. I found it funny that I made such a silly mistake in a post where I was asking for help. I was not upset by your response in anyway possible. I never have been.

Ok, good. I meant well! And it really is a pet peeve of mine. Though I don't remember commenting on your writing in the past, I'm sure I have. Not sure why, but I feel compelled to correct misspoken idioms and some other technical writing errors... Hey, I almost forgot I was a paid writing tutor in grad school! I guess it's a habit now.
Check out http://www.dictionary.com. I like the thesaurus function when searching for just the right word to use in my writing.
