Sitting up Q.
Hi,
My DD is 6 mths today and she cannot sit up by herself - is this normal?
I feel like I dont do enough to "train" her to sit up...I do pull her up to the sitting position a couple of times a day and she will slump forward...
when I put her in the stroller in the sitting position she cries and slumps down, the same if I prop her up on the boppy pillow with extra cushions...she slides down until she is lying down again.
I dont want to force her but wonder if you moms did stuff to get your babies to sit up.
Its alright with me if she stays lying down as I really dont want her growing up
TIA

Re: Sitting up Q.
My DD will be 6 mos next week and she has just started sitting in the last 2 weeks- when i say sitting up that is with the aid of the boppy and not for long periods of time.
To assist them in getting used to sitting up you will have to practice this everyday (even for 2-3 mins at a time). I noticed that once DD started using the baby einstein she has learned to sit up and even stand (making her back muscles stronger). We also started using the highchair- at first had it reclined while feeding and little by little she got used to it and started sitting up more.
It's all a matter of time and before you know it your child will start doing everything so fast.

Re: Sitting up Q.
Does she get a lot of belly time for muscle development? It will help develop her back muscles too.
I would ask the pediatrician to evaluate her if you're worried. I would say she's completely in the range of starting to sit up on her own. We used to prop Joseph & Maddie up with bobby pillows but for the most part they were on their belly.
You can get great services through the county for free if she qualifies.
Also - I'm not a big fan of the bumpo seat. While it helps them sit, I can't imagine it would be good for muscle development at all.

Re: Sitting up Q.
Sydney started to sit up for seconds at a time at 5 1/2 months but really only this week can I say that she is totally sitting up on her own. She will be 7 months tomorrow.

Re: Sitting up Q.
My DS was late sitting on his own. He actually stood before he sat , but like people say - they are all different!
