Silly question about garbage?
What do you do to keep your child away from the garbage pail? Do they make locks for it? Alex has recently discovered the garbage pail and is fascinated by opening and closing it. We really can't put it anywhere else in our kitchen and it's too big to put under a sink/in a cabinet. I really hate that he likes to open and close it though and I'm sure eventually, he'll realize he can take stuff out of it! It's so unsanitary! Any suggestions?

Re: Silly question about garbage?
Nope no suggestions here.
Jacen likes to put his hands in it and tip it over.
So we have the garbage gated off in the bathroom next to the kitchen.

Re: Silly question about garbage?
I got in Target the other day (which I am sure they have everywhere) the appliance lock (sold in packages of 2). I put in on my garbage can and now he doesn't even go near it because he can't open it anymore. Good Luck!

Re: Silly question about garbage?
Our kitchen garbage can is on the countertop.... not the best place for it, but the safest place we could think of....

Re: Silly question about garbage?
We bought a locking garbage can from bed bath and beyone. It has a step peddle thing and a lock on the top. We lock it often. My DS has put many things in while saying dirty. LOL

Re: Silly question about garbage?
DS used to think he was helping by throwing EVERYTHING (including things that were most certainly not garbage!) in the can. I went out and bought one of those expensive cans from bed bath and beyond thinking that would work. NOPE! He figured out how to open that too! Finally I resorted to useing a small piece of scotch tape and that worked for a little while until he got out of that phase! As far as those appliance lock things, we got one of them for the dishwasher, he figured that baby out the first day we had it! DH on the other hand still can't figure it out

We put a lock on the can its the kind you use on the refrigator. Shes into cleaning up so afraid shell toss out something important so we put the lock on it.

Re: Silly question about garbage?
Our garbage is built into one of the kitchen cabinets and its super heavy to pull out and open. If he does get stronger and starts to pull it, we will put a cabinet lock on it.
