Signing something to say grandparents can make medical decisions when parents away?
DH and I are going away in 2 months for our anniversary. We will be gone for 4 days NOT driving distance away. DD will be with my parents for 2 days and DH's parents for 2 days.
If DD got sick or anything would our parents be able to make medical decisions for DD? Do we need to sign something at the doctor's office stating on so and so dates they can make medical decisions for DD?
Anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Signing sometime to say grandparents can make medical decisions when parents away?
My Ils have a letter from us giving them permission to seek medical attention for my DDs. They watch them during the day. We just typed up a letter with the child's name, birthdate, and giving them permission to seek medical attention. We got it notarized. We also made copies of the girls insurance cards for them to keep.
When we went away for 4 days and they watched them we gave them the original insurance cards.
My pediatrician also has a letter on file giving them permission because they do take the girls there sometimes if they are sick and DH and I can't get out of work.

Thanks! Didn't think of the insurance cards too!

We just did this as we were overseas w/out DD....
DH googled it and found one that was written for Wisconsin so we used that as a template....
just put all of their info down, both sign it and have a witness sign it (someone not blood related)...I think that'll be good enough

I think you need a notorized letter giving them power of attorney. So in case they need to make a decision they have that letter from you.

We put medical, dental or emergency....just to cover all bases. We also gave my parents and inlaws all the information that would be requested from a provider -- our SS#'s, employment information and such along with the notarized letter. All have also gotten the epi pen lesson since my son has severe nut allergy.
