Dr. wants ds to have one since he has mucus loose stools with some threads of blood....and have been on allementum for two weeks...

any thoughts?

part of me feels like she is jumping the gun..and then part of me feels like what if it is really necessary?

is it reasonable to try another formula?

Re: sigmoidoscopy???

Try another formula...Elecare or Neocate... My son had a severe milk protein allergy and soy allergy. Alimentum made him worse..

Re: sigmoidoscopy???

DD didn't have formula, she was EBF, but had mucus/blood in stools for many months. She also didn't have any other symptoms--no redness, she wasn't cranky/uncomfortable. I did an elimination diet for months and there no change, so we did a sigmoidoscopy. It was really quick. She wasn't sedated. I had to leave the room, but she was fine when I went back in. The doctor said she had lymphoid hyperplasia, little nodules on her colon that were causing irritation. The doctor said it was benign and would probably go away within the first year. It did, right around 6 months.

BUT, all that said, if I were you, I'd probably switch the formula before doing the procedure. Especially since so many babies seem to have milk issues. For us, the sigmoid was the last resort.

Re: sigmoidoscopy???

I would first try a new formula and if that doesn't help then do it. My son ended up having a endoscopy and colonoscopy at 10 months. It was rough but worth it. He reacted to every formula and his reflux was out of control. Though he had to be put out for it, it was quick and he did really well. My son also had lymphoid hyperplasia. His has not resolved completely yet.
