sight words practice
DD will be going into Kindergarten in September and I want to practice sight words with her.
What are some good flash cards or books for early reading and sight word recognizing that I can purchase for her?

Re: sight words practice
I think getting your own cards, writing the letters in a plain font, red ink was the best way to go. It worked for us & I wasn't tied to words in a set packet.
If you get really ambitious, you can hang them around your house.

Re: sight words practice
Best thing for us was to write them on index cards.
The hard part is getting finding books that include a lot of them so kids can see them in context. Bob Set has a sight word set.

sight words practice
Bear's new friend, by karma Wilson is the best sight word book I have found. Flash cards mixed in with picture cards. Make sight word cards, buy pic cards...make sentences with them. So it could be- I have a big bike. 4 sight words and an extra word to learn.

I wrote them on index cards (2 sets) and we play memory with them. Fun game and ds loves it. You can practice by having kids write them in paint, sand, shaving cream and even pudding

Re: sight words practice
I would look in the dollar bins at Target. At the end of the school year they had pre-made index cards with sight words. I also made my own index cards for DS using a list I got off of the internet.

Re: sight words practice
I have 4 of these books. They are simple, repetitive and cute. DS has had them for about a year and now he can read all of them cover to cover and when he got them, he only knew a few words.
