Shower invite... Send them to OTT that I know wont come?
Hi ladies...
I have a question, do I send out the baby shower invites to my family that is in Georgia and South Carolina even though I know for a fact they cant come?
I dont want them to get offended if I dont send them one, but at the same time I dont want to seem like Im sending it cause I want a gift out of them, ya know? Im confused HELP!!

We have this issue with every occassion b/c we have a lot ofOOT family. We send the invites b/c we want them to know they are included. Once in a while they will even come to NY for the occassion too!

I am sending invites to DH's family that is OOS - even though I think most of them won't come. It's more for the courtsey aspect than anything.
I didn't want to send them because I felt it looked like I was expecting a gift knowing full well that some of them would not fly to NY from the West Coast to attend a baby shower.
However, DH feels that they are his first cousins & they were all close growing up so we should send them

I never invite oot to a shower. I just feel like its asking for a gift. I know they won't be able to make it anyways.

I would still invite them. I dont think people would think it's only for getting a gift, I think it just respectful to invite them.

I always invite OOT, b/c I have found people get offended in our family if not invited. Most do send gifts, but not b/c they feel they have to, but they really want to.
It always works out...and occasionally some take the trip to spend time with family and friends as well as attend the shower.

I would send them so that they feel included and wanted at the shower.
I had one sent to my grandfather in Florida. I know for a fact he wont come. I haven't seen him 13 years, he never comes down to NY to see us. But every year when we have a party I always make sure to invite him so that he knows he is wanted there and is thought of.

We sent shower invites to OOT family. A majority of my family lives in Cali and I know they can't come, but I still want them to feel included in the things going on here.

Same here. I sent some invites out to friends who I didn't think would come and they wound up coming. I want people to feel included.

I send invites to out of town family members (dh's family all live in maryland and delaware). we know all of them won't make it but we want them to feel included.
as some pp have said sometimes, some of them will come up to spend time with us and hang in nyc. i guess its easier since its a 2.5-4.5 car ride.

I agree. I have a lot of family/friends who are OOT, heck I am OOT! My shower is on LI and I live in CT. My CT friends know there will be a shower so I invited them. For my bridal shower one of them came down, I didn't expect anyone to.
As for family who live far away, I never know when they have a trip planned so they are on the invite list. They may just be in town that day!

It really does say "send a gift", but I have no problem doing that  especially if I've been invited to their shower and sent a gift.

hmm, your right I guess... I mean, one of the people Im thinking of is my cousin in south carolina. I couldnt make it to her wedding but I did send a gift, so maybe she'll do the same for me?

DH and I are in NY and our entire families are in the Midwest. I do feel offended when I'm NOT invited so I say send them to your OOT guests.
For the invites I have received, I have never thought they were fishing for a gift. I felt honored that they included me.

I alwasy have this issue. I send the invitations and call them.. say "Invite is in the mail, I know you won't be able to make it but I wanted you to see it."

I send invites to OOT, if you can't make it don't come, they are still family. Up to them to send a gift or not.
