Shower at 36 weeks?
Just wanted to get some opinions on this. What do you think of having your baby shower at 36 weeks? My mother will be throwing it for me and prefers the 3rd weekend in July, where I will be 36 weeks along... however, some others have said to me "wow you'll be huge, hot, and miserable by then" so now I don't know if this is a bad idea...
Also I was just curious looking at other potential weekends, what weekend is considered "July 4th weekend" this year, since it falls on a Wednesday?
TIA!

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I personally would not want my shower that close to my due date. Not only for the reasons you mentioned, but also for the fact that I feel I won't have time afterwards to get things done. For example, wash clothes/bedding, organize, make last minute trips to the stores to return/buy things I didn't get. Also, what happens if you go early.
My mom is also planning mine and waited til the last minute to book a place. Luckily, we are having it when I am 34 weeks (May 20th), but if it wasn't that weekend, it was going to be in June (I'm due July 8th) and for the reasons mentioned above, I was adamant about not having it in June.
To answer your other question, I would think the weekend AFTER the fourth is "fourth of July weekend," however, I think people tend to take advantage of the whole week.

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I am going to be 35 wks at my shower. Although I would prefer to me 32- 34 wks instead, it def is not the end of the world. It doesn't take that long to wash what you are going to need right away. If you follow some of the advice from BTDT moms, they suggest you only was a few things b/c you really arent going to know your exact size of the baby so you dont want to rip the tags off of everything. In this situation, if you have no choice to have it that late, I def wouldnt get myself worked up over it.

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I made it clear that the cut off date for my shower was July 14th. I didn't want to be hot big and miserable
I was also worried about not knowing what weekend is the holiday weekend. My shower will be on July 7th. We sent out STD via em and text and was surprised how many people said the date was fine.
Lets see if they remember when the invite goes out

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I'm having mine at 35 weeks. I'd prefer it earlier as well but I think it'll be okay. Mines also in May though. Is it indoors in ac ? If it's outside I'd think you'd be uncomfortable

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I'm almost 35 weeks and I'm uncomfortable in my climate controlled house. I cant even imagine the heat and nastiness of July being this far along. My shower was at 31 weeks and I was exhausted. I would avoid 35 at all costs.

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
i had mine at almost 30 weeks. right now i am 37 weeks.
i just said today how glad i was that mine was earlier. not so much for how i looked but..... if i had to now just start decorating washing organizing...i might die. i am so beyond tired and achy.
i liked going slow and puttering around. and then figuring out what i really need or want and be able to go exchange things at my leisure.
so anything can be done... but i am neurotic and i hate rushing so for me it worked best to do it earlier.

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
i personally feel that around 33-34 weeks physically is a good time to have a shower. this way you arent completely uncomfortable & you still have another week or so to get to that point in the event you have to go returning or more shopping.

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
My first baby, the shower was scheduled for 34 weeks. I gave birth before 32 weeks so I had a 2 week old baby in the NICU by the time my shower came around lol!
This time I was surprised with a Sprinkle for my close family only and it was at 34 weeks also. I felt ok and really enjoyed myself. By middle of 35 weeks, I started feeling VERY achy and uncomfortable. Now at 36.5 weeks, I would be really uncomfortable at a shower, and if it was during hot July I would be miserable. lol.
But everybody is different!

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I was 35 weeks at my shower and it was fine. I won't lie, I was a little worried but I felt good, looked fine (except for my cankles) and had plenty of time to deal with all the stuff and get ready. I'd say just make sure there's ac where ever you have it!

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I wouldn't do it. I had my DS at 37 weeks with no warnings of early labor. At 36 weeks I was not happy and feeling pretty bad.
But then again I had my shower at 28 weeks and I missed it due to a hospital stay

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I had my first shower at 36 weeks and it was fine! It was early May and I wore a comfy sundress.
I recently had another shower for my 3rd (8 years later) and again, it was at 36 weeks. No issues.
Both the babies were born a week later at 37 weeks! Close, but no issues!

Re: Shower at 36 weeks?
I ended up on bedrest by 35ish weeks. I ended up having my shower around 30 weeks and I'm really glad I did. I had just started swelling around then and it only got worse as I got further along. Personally, I'd try to schedule it a little earlier than that. It will also give you more time to get things set up and ready.
