Don't tell. My sister-in-law watches my DD 3 days a week and if she told me that DD took her first steps before I saw it, I would be upset. JMO

Dont tell, as tempting as it is, I think it would devastate her to know she missed a big milestone. Let her discover on her own and be the proud mommy.

DH and I saw our daughters first steps, my Mom who watches her swears she never walked for her before that, and I beleive her, It meant so much to us to see it first, if my mom was lying I hope she never tells us. JMO!

Re: should I tell?

I'm going against the other posters to say yes I would tell.

I wasn't around to watch Andrew take his first steps, but I would have been all hyped up to see it and then would have been completely let down and annoyed to find out 'well hey he really took his steps the other day'.

It was still new to me when I did see him walk and still very special, but I documented in his baby book the exact day/time.

Maybe I'm just a weirdo!

I wouldn't. I think it's policy at day care centers not to tell so I'd do the same.

I wouldn't tell but maybe say that you saw he was TRYING to take steps. Maybe then she will encourage him and she can see it for herselfChat Icon

Excellent idea.

It wouldnt bother me because his first steps are when I SEE them. But I think I'm probably one of the few that feel that way!

It is at my center.

What you could say is I think he is going to take his first steps anyday now.Chat Icon

Re: should I tell?

I would not be thrilled to hear about something like this from anyone. I would want to witness it myself and not feel that I had missed it.

Re: should I tell?

If I was watching a friends child I wouldn't say anything and let her see if for herself, but I'm very close with my sister and I know she would be excited if I told her. I guess it depends on the person and if you feel they can handle it or not. Chat Icon
