Should I call dr?

DS will be 2 at the end of this month. He got a bad cold (no fever) last week and is super congested. Last night he was coughing so badly that he choked on all the mucous and threw up all over the car seat (luckily we were a block from my parent's house).

I'm pretty sure the dr. won't do be able to give him anything for this but maybe since he's almost two he can??? I'd hate the go there just to hear, give lots of liquids, use a cold mist humidifier and prop up the mattress. I guess my question is when can DS start taking medication and whether I should just "ride" this one out or visit the dr? Sorry for the long drawn out question but the vomiting is obviously not fun.

I asked the pharmasist what they would have recomended to a child who was 2 years old before the guidelines changed. They couldn't recomend anything now, but she did tell me what they used to recomend.

Re: Should I call dr?

my husband said try buckwheat honey you can get it from a whole foods/Trader Joes. He said you just give teaspoon. It will help with the cough. He said you should only give it to him if its effecting his sleep bc he needs to get the mucus out. There isn't much the dr. will be able to do. But If its bothering him you should take him to the dr. just in case.

My husband is a pediatrician.

Thank you! Yes, he sleeps some nights but is up for hours other nights. It's terrible watching them suffer.
