Should I buy this - Poll with pics
When I originally ordered the bench I did not order the shelf b/c I thought that the shelf would sit too close to the bench seat...
After having the bench for a few months I cannot, for the life of me, find something to put above it. Also, nobody EVER uses the bench - and DH and I just use the baskets underneath...
The shelf is priced pretty cheap and I think I have coupons for JCP...I'm wondering if I should go against my original gut feeling and go ahead and order it. I figure the hooks would be good to have, I can try and find 6 really nice baskets (I spray painted the 3 that I have dark brown until I find ones that I love) and I can use the top to display a photo, small plant, whatever...
I'm not concerned about the shelf being in the way b/c we don't use the bench for sitting - I'm just worried that it might look a little strange b/c there isn't a ton of space in between the pieces...but as of now it looks strange anyway b/c there is just a small bench by itself...
Also we are doing our stairs over to a dark stain and iron spindles, right now it's kind of clashing...

It looks a bit too low, but if you move the bench over you can raise the other piece a bit. How high would be the top be at that spot?

I agree. I love it with the top piece, but in this specific spot I think it's too low.

I agree. I love it with the top piece, but in this specific spot I think it's too low.
Ok I took a new picture at a better angle and moved the bench over to the right...
The top piece is 15 inches tall....when I measure the bottom of the shelf will be about 1.5 - 2 inches above the bottom of the post where the stairs turn...
The top of the shelf is def above 5 feet...not sure exactly how high, but I am 5 feet tall and I won't be able to see above the top, so the top of the shelf is taller than me if I were standing next to it or in front of it...
I think moving it over would make a big difference, still not sure though...
Does anyone know how JCP is with returns?

I think this piece is too big for the space. I would go with a simple floating shelf or a picture.

I agree.. the shelf looks too big for the space, and wouldn't look right being so low
can you put a horizontal picture there, or maybe a nice round mirror to fill up the space?

I don't think it works in that space
It just seems like to much stuff in one small space, sorry 
How about just hanging a small round mirror? I think that would fill the space well, and not look to big or out of place

i like the suggestions for a mirror - i was looking for either artwork or a mirror but i was having trouble finding something to fit the space scale wise. every mirror i liked was too big  and so were the prints i was finding, everything i liked was too big - the bench is small so it's hard to find something to fit the space that is also in porportion - the only thing in porportion is that shelf  but i'm not sure i have enough height to hang it...

I agree about the round mirror. I think that's your best bet for that spot

OP beat me too it, I was going to suggest a mirror also. Mabe a round iron one to match your fixtures. I remember you saying that you painted the brushed nickel black.

A mirror seems like a better idea - that other piece is great but it would be hard to sit on the bench with bags and coats and stuff hanging from the pegs behind you.

I wouldn't buy that second piece I think its going to look too heavy. I would get a thinner, smaller shelf if you really want to put soemthing above it
something like this but black maybe...
