Should I be invited?
I worked in IT for about 4 years and recently moved over to work in a different dept as of 3 weeks ago. The IT depts holiday party is Thursday and I was invited to it a few weeks prior to me moving to another dept.
Should I be invited? Should I go?
My boss just came back to the firm after being in IT for 17 years. She was gone for about 5 months and came back in another capacity. She is invited to the party because she has been at the firm so long, but should I?

If you want to go and see people from your old dept, go. If not then don't bother. If you were there for four years and just moved a couple of weeks ago, I am sure your invitation is still valid.

I agree. I think your invite is still valid. Go if you want to go, but don't feel obligated to attend.

at first, I asked if my boss was invited and was told that it wasn't appropriate but the managers of the dept approved it. Of course, they did...she was there forever! It wouldn't be a party without her.
I didn't want to assume I was still invited. Of course i want to go. They are all my friends. So I saw one of the managers today and said, "see you at the party." He just wrote me an email asking if i was referring to the IT party. I wrote back that there is no party without me! I know him well, so I felt comfortable saying that.
He didn't respond. My boss thinks I should go.

I would def. go........... you have only been out of that dept. for a few weeks...and your boss gave you the go ahead....so go and enjoy yourself.........
