Should I be concerned that 2yo DS is still drooling a lot?
Everywhere we go, 2yo DS seems like he is the only kid who is still drooling. I have felt like this for the past year. He needs a bib because he is always drooling. It isn't his tonsils. We keep thinking it's his molars but is it possible for him to have drooled for an entire year due to molars?
Does anyone other's child drool a lot?
We think it may be his 2y molars but I can't help but be concerned when no one else drools the way DS does.

Thank you.
It's frustrating because the ped looked at his tonsils and something else and said everything looked fine.
We keep waiting for DS to stop teething but I really can't imagine him drooling this much for 1+ years due to teething.

DS never drooled-which is good because he refuses to wear a bid.
DD drooled a lot but I can't remember when she stopped.
2 years old does seem a little old to still be drooling so much but I don't think I would be too concerned as long as he seems to have good muscle movement in his mouth (eating, "talking", etc).

This was my DS. He always had a wet shirt with drool. I kept asking my Dr and they always said well teeth...2 year molars. I knew it wasn't normal. I just kept on harping. My dr said it could be adnoids and to go see an ENT. We low and behold...his adnoids were so enlarged they needed to be removed and voila no more drooing. He couldn't breathe properly thru his nose so he had to breathe mostly from his mouth which lead to the drooling constantly.
Ask you Dr and seek a ENT
Good Luck...go with your mommy instincts...if something doesn't seem right keep nagging!!!!

Re: Should I be concerned that 2yo DS is still drooling a lot?
My DS was the worlds biggest drooler. To the point where I actually thought he was never going to stop!
He lived in bibs from the time he was an infant until the time when I just dealt with his wet shirts.
I was so looking forward to the day he got his 2 year molars in because I assumed that the drooling would end after all his teething was done. Nope.
He got his 2 year molars in a little after he was 2. I took him to the pediatric dentist around 2 1/2 and even though all 4 molars had broken through, they were still not in all the way and he was still drooling.
He wasn't drooling as much at 2 1/2, but he still drooled. If his mouth was open when he was reading a book or playing, it would just spill out of his mouth. It was crazy.
DS is now 3 1/2 and does not drool anymore. I can't remember when he officially stopped, but I can say he was still drooling past 2 1/2.
My DD is almost 16 months and I don't think she has ever needed a bib outside of eating because she doesn't drool at all. Go figure! Amazing how kids can be so different.
Hope my story gives you hope that it will eventually stop!!

I couldn't remember what the other thing they looked at and it was androids. They said the androids were fine.
I am so frustrated! My mommy instincts definitely tell me something is wrong.

I was putting off the ped dentist appointment. I'm going to make an appointment immediately.

With my DS, there was no explanation for it. I assume it was just the teething. The ped was never concerned, in fact, she never really checked his tonsils. The pediatric dentist simply told me that some kids have more drool than others and don't learn until later how to manage it. I don't want to dismiss your mommy instinct... keep asking questions if you think something is wrong. I just know that in my case, there was never a problem... just a sloppy, drooly, kid with a lot of saliva!

Re: Should I be concerned that 2yo DS is still drooling a lot?
I had DS evaluated by EI when he was 2 for speech. One of the first things they picked up was that he was still drooling. I thought it was normal My DS did have large tonsils which were later taken out that contributed but they also said he had low oral motor tone, meaning his mouth muscles were weak.
We were told to get rid of sippy cups and only use straws which helps make oral muscles stronger, whistles, practice sticking out the tongue, blowing bubbles, chewy foods. Anything that exercises the mouth.

Re: Should I be concerned that 2yo DS is still drooling a lot?
My DS is only 18 months old but maybe this helps. He was never a drooler but all of a sudden he's a drool machine. His chin is perpetually wet now. He is going through some major teething (canines, maybe more) and even though teething didn't cause him to drool before, it is now. It's been about 3 weeks already. So it can be the teething for your DS, maybe the 2 yr molars.
