Should I be concerned re: secondhand smoke?

One of the partners in my office is leaving and I'm taking over some of his work. Tonight we have to go down to meet with a client. I'm supposed to be going in his car. He normally smokes in his car (although he won't smoke with me in it tonight) so I assume it smells like smoke. He'll also probably stop once or twice to smoke outside. He'll either have A/C on or the windows down. I'd be in his for at least an hour each way.

How bad is this? I'm not normally around smoke. I'm not a smoker and neither is DH nor anyone in our families. I'd think since this is a one time thing and since he's not going to smoke around me, it's ok, but of course I'm paranoid. The car probably smells like smoke, but is that actual exposure to secondhand smoke?

No one in my office knows I'm pregnant and I don't feel comfortable sharing that information with him.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I could use some insight. Chat Icon

I think it will stink, but I don't believe it is dangerous to be around smoky surfaces / cloth.
they emit very little particulate matter and no gases, and it's the particulates and gases that are dangerous......

If you have m/s, though, it may make you Chat Icon

If he starts smoking, or asks if you mind, say that you have asthma, and if he could not smoke around you, you'd appreciate it.

He already told me he wouldn't smoke in the car, but he may stop on the way to take a cigarette break.

I'm also a little concerned about my m/s. I haven't gotten physically sick at night, but I tend to feel nauseous in the late afternoon/evening. I'm bringing Reglan with me just in case.

You should be ok then. Second hand smoke is not good for you either, but you should be ok...
