short cervix
I had my amnio today. I was so excited to see the baby and our munchkin looks great. They measured my cervix and it is supposed to be 3cm they said, mine is 2.9. I have to be watched and go back next week. I feel like there is always something. Has this happened to anyone else, how did you do and did they have to treat it? Feeling nervous any advice would help.

Re: short cervix
i dont have a short cervix but i am on watch for one until 24 weeks. i had a leep procedure done years ago, thats why they are keeping an eye on it. i think they can put in a sutcher to strengthen it if its too short

Re: short cervix
I had a leep done several years ago too. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. How far are you along? They are just watching you, are they doing any treatments?

Re: short cervix
i'm 18w5d. when she first measured me a while ago i think i was over 5. she said i was longer than most but wanted to watch it because she would hate to have it get short and go unnoticed. she wanted me to come in for weekly sonos but thats really hard. i went about 2 weeks ago and havent scheduled another one yet because i have no time. she wants to keep an eye on it because she said a short cervix can lead to pre-term labor. i have had no other treatment so far other than internal sonos

Re: short cervix
Thanks for sharing. I know its hard to get there every week. I think that is what they are going to say to me too. They told me its a risk for premature labor. I am only 16 weeks so I am nervous. They said my options are progesterone supplements or sewing the cervix. Just feel like there is always something to worry about. Good luck

Re: short cervix
I had a shortened cervix very early (like 12 weeks) and was put on a week of bed rest. It was measuring 2.5 I think. We discussed a stitch but it has resolved since then. It gets checked by the OB and the high risk doctor and has been between 3-4 and all subsequent visits. Try and get some rest, stay off your feet as much as possible and see if that helps. GL!!

Re: short cervix
definitely try to rest...it's more than just staying off your feet though. sitting puts just as much pressure on your cervix as standing does, they suggest that you lay on your side or flat on your back to ensure there is no pressure on it...i had a short cervix at 21 weeks and ended up having a cerclage at 23 weeks when it got down to 1.8 andi was having contractions.
good luck!!

Re: short cervix
hey girls
how do they check ur cervix each time? do they do it manually as well with the internal ultrasound? I am being watched for preterm labor as well and i get so nervous when they poke me manually all the time. They check once a week for alternating ways. i trust my doctors but i just get paranoid. wondering if that how you gals also get checked.

same for me, internal sono, I have only had it checked once and that is when they found it.

Re: short cervix
Bedrest and pelvic rest is the best way to try to lengthen your cervix.
Mine shortened around 17 weeks. I was just careful and tried to take it really easy. By 18 weeks I was fine again.
They check my cervix at every appointment with an internal sono. But I am at a higher risk for a shortening cervix since I am pregnant with twins.
If it is within the right time frame and they need to they will perform a cerclage which is basically a stitch in your cervix to keep it closed.

Re: short cervix
I think I will take it easy when I can and see how it goes next week. They said treatment options if needed are progesterone therapy or the stitch in the cervix. Trying to not stress. I am 16 weeks now, but it does make me feel better that some of you rested and it grew. It seems like there is always something to worry about
