The people who responded to your earlier post have it right.

1. You read the LIRR schedule or visit the LIRR web site (mta.info) and see if you need to change at Jamaica to get to Woodside. If so, change at Jamaica for the train to Woodside.

2. Once at Woodside, look for hoards of happy people wearing Mets attire. Stand near them and get on the train to Shea. It will be crowded.

3. After the game, follow the hoards of sad people (because the Mets probably lost Chat Icon ) back to the LIRR. Get on any westbound train and exit at Woodside.

4. At Woodside, go upstairs to the station area and read the electronic signs that will tell you when your next train home leaves. Get on the train and change at Jamaica as needed.

It's pretty simple and spelling it out in this much detail probably makes it more complicated than it really is.

No matter what you do, it's going to take a long time. Would you rather spend that time on the trains or in traffic? It's completely up to you.

Re: Shea Parking

Well, I was there for opening day and it was far worse than I expected. If you want to get to the game 45 mins to an hour before the game starts, you may be okay. Even with prepaid parking, we were made to park all the way on the other side of the fair grounds and had to take a bus from the parking lot... then walk about 10 minutes to the stadium from where the shuttle dropped us off.

I won't be driving to any more home games this year. I'll definitey be taking the train from now on.

Re: Shea Parking

Sorry I did not respond to my OP earlier.

Depending on which branch you travel, and which time there is either a direct if you are on the same line, a single transfer in woodside, but that gets you to shea only 15 minutes before the game begins, or several options prior that transfer in Jamaica first then in Woodside.

To me it is 6 of one half dozen of another, you either sit in traffic or sit on the train...pay the LIRR or pay for parking & then I find that leaving after the game is way worse than getting to the game. But that is just my experience....many others prefer to drive.

Really? We parked in the prepaid parking and there were so many open spots. Even after the game.

I've had to park pretty far last year, like where they were bussing people, but I didn't mind the walk. And that was only because we were late.

Prepaid was totally the way to go this year. Lots of spots.

Re: Shea Parking

We always get there about 45 mins before the start of the game and have never had a problem getting paid parking under the overpass. For the season opener DH got there at 10AM to tailgate, but other than that, we don't get there more than 45 mins early. It's expensive--$15--but we never had a problem and have season passes.

We take the train! So much easier. It may even be a little cheaper than paying for parking.
What we do is go to the game, then after, take the 7 into Manhattan and go to dinner and walk around times square. We do this once or twice a year.Chat Icon
