My brother has three boys so fire trucks it stayed! They kept the younger two in the mail floor room until each was old enough to move upstairs.
It has a nice mid blue walls with a dark red border stripe at top.
Red white and blue are cute colors because you can do cars, trucks, fire trucks, sports for a boy or add some raggedy ann dolls, red wagons, red gingham for a girl.

Re: sharing rooms between toddler and baby
My sister and BIL lived with us for awhile. Her DD and my DS are 4.5 months apart and shared the largest room. What we did was pick out bed sets that went together even though they were different genders. I got the PBK madras and mixed in matched with the surf theme and she did the same but in girls. The room was a cream/off white color and the curtains and decorations were picked out using the neutral colors that both sets shared, like baby blues and pastel greens. It came out great.
