Is sugar cookie batter the best to make shapes for cookies or does anyone have another batter that works well?

Thanks!

Re: shape cookies batter

This is my grandma's recipe and the number one best. I have never had cut out cookies as good as these are. (Note I haven ever made the chocolate version)

Cut Out Cookies
(Grandma Winans)
1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 t. vanilla
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt

1. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs; beat. Add vanilla.
2. Mix and sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add to mixture. Mix well.
3. Chill covered in refrigerator or freezer until firm. Roll a small amount of the dough at a time to 1/4" thickness. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake on greased cookie sheet 15 minutes at 350 degrees.

For chocolate cookies:
Melt 1 sq. unsweetened chocolate; add to creamed mixture.
Sift 2 t. cinnamon and 1/2 t. nutmeg with dry ingredients.

Re: shape cookies batter

I made these on Sunday. I added a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of fresh ground nutmeg. They came out really fluffy and soft. So yum!
