Seriously annoyed
DS will be spending 2 nights at the IL's while we are away.. I wrote down his schedule & I wanted it followed as closely as possible. Tonight, DH brought the PNP over & set it up for them. I asked DH where he set it up? ... in the freaking living room!!! umm... how is this kid going to sleep in the livingroom when he is a light sleeper, and always sleeps until 8am & the IL's are up & start the day at 6:30?! I am ******, not just because of this, but because they never take my rules into consideration.
Wish they would all move away

Oh & don't wish that - who would watch the kids when you want to go away?

no, he knew I was not pleased & he told me to relax & DS would be fine! He annoys me because he really needs to be on the same page as me. We are going to have a talk about this on the plane. BUT I don't really want him to know how much I truely cannot stand his entire family.

I would be really pis sed too!! Especially if it were my ILs! My parents do crap like this, but at least I can talk to them about it Still soooo unbelievably frustrating though! They make me want to move to Canada sometimes!

I know, if my parents were doing this, I'd flip on them. It's not in the best interest of the baby. But since it's my IL's, I can't flip out, or I'd be the cause of WW3.

Re: Seriously annoyed
I guess it's hard to complain to them when they are doing you a huge favor and minding him for a couple nights.
It stinks, but I've learned that unless you never want to leave DC with anyone else, you have to be flexible. Or you could stay home.

Re: Seriously annoyed
I wish I had someone to mind my kids for the weekend. Wow you are so lucky. I would not care if my kids were sleeping in the attic as long as they were safe and happy.
Your in-laws will live and learn OR your dc will adjust.
Enjoy your trip.

Re: Seriously annoyed
Was there a reason they wanted it in the living room? Do they have a spare bedroom? Maybe your DH put it there because it was the most convenient place for him, not where his parents asked him to put it.

I agree. They will either find that DS isn't sleeping well and move him or DS will adjust and be fine.
It will be OK

Re: Seriously annoyed
Hmm...I disagree with the previous posters...I think that it's your child, and if they are going to watch him, it is by your rules.
I know that I worked very hard to get DS on a great schedule with eating and sleeping, and I think a parent's wishes should be respected.
They raised their children how they saw fit, and you will raise yours how you see fit. If you don't want the PNP in the living room, have DH put it somewhere else.
I understand they're "doing you a favor", but that doesn't mean that your routines and rules are out the window!!!!

I agree.
Also, not everyone has to watch him the same way you do. That is part of the fun of going to Grandma and Grandpa...they aren't Mom and Dad and do things a little differently.
As long as he's being cared for by people who love him and what the best for him...does it really matter where he sleeps? Go have fun...enjoy the weekend.

Re: Seriously annoyed
thanks everyone. The thing is, he was going to stay at my parent's the entire time but MIL begged to have him 2 nights.. so I think she should follow my rules. Oh well, it will just be harder on her if he is cranky.

Re: Seriously annoyed
I totally agree that it's your child and your rules. What good does it do to set up the PNP if he's not going to be able to sleep? I understand how frustrating it can be when you work so hard to set your child into a schedule and your ILs basically decide that they are just gonna do whatever they want. My ILs think I'm crazy, but I don't care. It's my kid and if they want to watch him, they need to follow my rules. Stand your ground and move that PNP into a quieter room!

Re: Seriously annoyed
This is one of those things where youbpick your battles. You trust them enough to leave you kid there you need to trust what goes on too. Im not not taking your feeling in im just saying its a little give and take. I dont always agree with my mil, but i trust her to know she will watch my kid like a hawk because she knows im a freaking fruit loop and would hurt someone should something happen. Just go away and dont stress it. It will ruin your trip. Again, jmho

Re: Seriously annoyed
So far, I have only left DD once (at night). My mom did the same thing, put her in the TV room so she could watch TV and watch the baby too. DD didn't fall asleep until midnight, it sucked - oh well we survived and I got to go to a party with DH and have a good time.
I think you have to pick your battles

Well, they are the one who will have to deal with his crankiness when he doesn't sleep! It won't be your problem for a few days!

Re: Seriously annoyed
Seriously?
They are the ones doing you the favor and maybe this is easier for them for some reason or another... whatever it might be... Maybe they have stairs and don't want to take your DC up and down... IDK...
I wish I had my IL here to watch our Daughter for a night or two... she is 10 months and has never slept anywhere else but home.
I honestly wouldn't be complaining.

Honestly, I would let it go. Two nights in a different environment is not going to harm him. If it did, no one would ever go anywhere!

I kinda feel like they are doing you a favor. I know when my mom watches my DD she doesn't always put her to bed at her bedtime. Drives me insane but she is doing me a favor and so I suck it up.

my MIL begs for my DD too so I also think she should follow my rules - it doesn't always work out that way unfortunately and it usually takes my DD a few days to recover from being overtired from being with her so I totally get where you're coming because she's not the only one who suffers from ignoring the rules - I always do too. my DD I have found is great at holding it together for others, but the second she's home, she gets comfortable enough to show how really tired she is and have a complete meltdown so the consequences of MIL's behavior usually fall on me. I know she loves her though and I appreciate her involvement so I usually let it go... it's not worth it IMO.
