Separate Birthdays or together?

DS1 is 4 and DS2 is 2. So far they've had their own birthday parties. They are just about 2 years apart. DS1's birthday is end of May and DS2's bday is early July. I usually have people away bc one is around Memorial Day weekend and the other around the 4th of July.

DH likes that they have their own birthday parties. He and his sister and 3 years and a week apart and always had his own.
My thought is something in June for the both and then small family ones on their bday. It gets so much and they're still young. Only problem is DS1 is in PreK and has some of his own friends, but our group of friends have kids the same age. DS2 can't have a cute kiddie party bc there's a lot more older kids. If that makes sense.

Just trying to figure out what to do this year. DS1 had two bounce parties in a row and DS2 had a pool party for his 1st and 2nd.
Thoughts? Maybe a big party and for their own friends I'd have the invite just have DS1's name so they don't get a gift for DS2 and then a weekend at Great Wolf Lodge or something?

Re: Separate Birthdays or together?

I would do separate. The birthdays are in separate months.

My two sons' birthdays are 1 day apart. I still did a separate party for them last year. I may just do one joint party this year and invite the preschool classes because so many siblings are in both DS#1 and DS#2's classes at school.

In the future, I will always do separate parties.

Separate! I think it sucks to share your birthday if you don't have to. If they are both the same week then it may be unavoidable, but these are certainly far enough apart that you don't have to.

Separate Birthdays or together?

Growing up my sister and I did parties together some years and other years they were separate. Our birthday are two year and two weeks apart. It was always our choice although I'm sure my parents steered our decision a bit. I never regretted sharing a party, especially being the younger one who looked up to my sister and her friends. Maybe ask your 4 year old what he prefers for now but in a few years they can both decide together if they want a party together or not. If you can splurge more bc it's combined or if the younger one gets to have a pool party, etc they may appreciate that.

Separate Birthdays or together?

separate

My brother and I are 3 years and 2 weeks apart. Always separate
We shared them once or twice and thought Yeah more kids, fun, but it was horrible. We hated it. Its the one day a year that its really all about 'me' and yet 'we' had to share it. Couldn't eat cake until the other one blew out the candle etc. Thankfully our parents learned. We would never SAY anything to them because it would be ungrateful and we loved each other, and sure we found fun in it somehow, but we LIKED having our own birthdays MUCH better even if they were smaller!

Re: Separate Birthdays or together?

Mine are mid April and early May and 2 years apart -

I take the Friday of their birthday week off and bring them to the city to hang out and meet up w/ DH later in the day (he ususally takes 1/2 day) They like that they get a special 'alone' day w/ us w/o the brother -

We do pizza/cake with the immediate family at some point over the weekend, and we do cake/dinner ON their actual BDay regardless

I AM considering combining their 'cousin/family friends/daycare friends' party - it's just SO expensive to do 2 separate parties ......
and it's pretty much all the same people w/ the exception of the daycare crew - So I'd address the family & family friends as DS1 & DS2, and then address the day care friends for either or's party .........
eh, I have to see.

I think your boys' birthdays are kind of far apart though

Separate Birthdays or together?

My nephews are 2 years and 2 days apart. When they were younger, my SIL did parties together and they still have one family birthday get together. But they now have separate friends parties - they have totally different interests and many different friends, so it got to be too difficult to do one friends party for the both of them

Yeah, this is my point. It's a lot and all the same friends except for about 3 or 4 friends from school.
I was just thinking of doing a party mid June which is right between their bdays. It's a little over a month apart. May 28th and July 8th.
Eh... I'll figure it out and probably will do separate. Still time to think about it
