selling and holiday decorating?
looks like we might be putting the house on the market soon.
in staging, is it wise or un-wise to decorate for the holidays while your house is on the market?

Re: selling and holiday decorating?
I've heard holiday decorating is not wise when selling. Keep it really low key, like an autumn wreath on the door & maybe one centerpiece or fall decoration inside. Nothing too holiday specific, more seasonal. ETA-And make sure there is NOTHING seasonal or holiday out when your REA takes photos-that helps buyers gauge how long you've been on the market!

I totally agree. Especially with the photo's, it dates the pics. Keep holiday decorating to a minimum, but enjoy your holidays too. GL!

Can you at least take the listing pictures before you start to decorate. Either way, I would keep it to a minimum so buyers can see a house. I've seen decorated houses on MLS and it drives me nuts. I get distracted and it starts to look like clutter. Also, let's say you are decorating for Christmas, than you are not appealing to Jewish families looking to buy and you want to appeal to as many people as possible.

I agree, keep it to a min. During X-mas (If you celebrate that), I would not prevent yourself from putting a tree in your home, but I would not line the entire house with lights and break out the blow up's. For the fall, you can tastefully decorate and not over due it so people do not focus on those things.
Personally, I like to see a house look like a home and enjoyed, just keep it simple.
You get the picture

Re: selling and holiday decorating?
I wouldn't decorate. On HGTV they say to take away any of the personal stuff because people looking feel like they are intruding when there are tons of decorations/family pics, etc.
