Sell-By Date vs Expiration Date
Are these the same thing? I know that technically the Sell-By date means that stores can't sell past that date... but is it ok to eat? I bought burgers over the weekend expecting to BBQ and we never did. The sell-by date is 6/24. Should I chuck them?

Re: Sell-By Date vs Expiration Date
Funny- I just came on here to post this!
DH made meatballs out of ground turkey last night when I wasn't home. He said the "sell by date" said 6/25 (he made them on 6/26), so he figured it was still good. I'm usually a stickler/paranoid with meat- so if its a day past its sell by date, I throw it out. lol. I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to get food poisoning or not when I eat dinner tonight.

I'm pretty sure you still have about a week after the sell-by day until the expiration date. That's assuming you don't freeze it.

I would never keep raw meat in the fridge for a week! I say smell them and if they have an foul odor, chuck em. If not, cook them today!

ITA, usually if I do not plan to cook the meat within 1-2 days of purchasing it, then I freeze it and usually cook it within 2 weeks of that.
