Self-weaning at 8 months? Or...
For the last 1.5 - 2 months i've been BFing DD in the morning and before she goes to bed. She gets formula the rest of the day. The last 2 days she's been kinda refusing the breast. She recently cut a tooth and I see another one about to cut through so maybe that is why?
Friday morning was a struggle but got her to BF for a little. Friday night we were at a wedding so she didn't BF. Saturday morning she would only BF on one side.
Last night she ate for maybe 3 minutes on one side and she stopped and wouldn't go back on, wouldn't switch sides either. She started screaming crying (which she NEVER does) so I made her a 4 oz bottle and she drank it and went right to sleep. I'm wondering if it's because of her 2nd tooth that's about to come in? I'm not ready to stop but if she is i'll have to be okay with it. What do you think, do you think it's a strike or am I done with BFing?

I read that BFing can be really painful when they're teething because of the suction of the latch. I guess there's no way to tell until you get through it But you should probably pump in the meantime to try to maintain your supply.
My DS is 8 months and we've been cutting down drastically - partly my doing but partly because I just don't feel he's getting enough from me. So, I'm here doing the same if you need someone to talk to!

Thanks, I already gave the pump back to my cousin who I borrowed it from and I don't think i'd go back to pumping anyway. I was just hoping I could BF am and pm until at least 9 months.

Re: Self-weaning at 8 months? Or...
I hope it's not the case for you, but that's the exact age when my DD self-weaned....literally the day she turned 8 months I think.
She had her first 2 teeth at 4.5 months, so teething wasn't the issue with her. I honestly just think she was too busy/distracted to nurse (she was a SLOW nurser, but that was her own doing, not mine )
Does Sienna get distracted? Could that be it? Is she trying to look all around, focus on other things?

My DD did this when I went back to work and only fed in the am and pm I think my supply dwindled. Could you try pumping more to see if that is it to bring it back up?

She's been getting distracted for a while now so I always BF her in her room with no noise and tell DH not to come in or make too much noise until i'm done. With the bottle she can move her head around and look at stuff while drinking so that has been an issue for a while, but the last few days she just pulls off for no reason, starts to whine and tries to sit up. Then she won't go back on and she'll take the bottle fine. I have a feeling she's just done but I don't want to believe it!

Yea I know my supply isn't what it used to be but she definitely gets enough at the PM feeding since she STTN and the AM feeding she can go 3 hours from then until she eats again. I already gave the pump back that I borrowed from my cousin and I hated pumping (did it for 6 months)!

Yeah, C was distracted way before 8 months too unfortunately. We were the same, nursed in the quiet to make it more efficient/productive.
Honestly, I could just tell C was done nursing. At that point I was doing exactly what you were doing-- AM and PM session...I think I stopped my 1x/day work pumping session a month before that. I think she was just done with BF...I was very sad and really wanted it to work, but after like 3 days straight of trying to force the kid to nurse, I had to give it up. And she was happy as a clam, and honestly, it was the best for both of us in the end.
Good luck!

For us, once I went to am/pm feedings DD wasn't interested at all. It was at 11 months and I went straight to milk and skipped formula. I was sad but at the same time you could tell she just didn't want anything to do with it. I think I did cut down to 2 feedings around 10 months old.

Re: Self-weaning at 8 months? Or...
Thanks... actually tonight she didn't want to eat solids and was really cranky, which is unlike her, so I just nursed her and she didn't put up any fight. She ate from both sides no problem so i'm thinking it's teething and she's just being picky with everything b/c of it. We'll see how much longer this AM/PM nursing lasts, i'm happy with making it to 8 months but hoping to continue a little longer!

same thing happened to me at about 7.5 months I was also bfing only am and pm and she was fine with it and suddenly I just felt I either wasn't making enough or she was too distracted and would only stay on for a very short time. I'd give her a bottle soon after and she'd drink it. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with her teeth actually. I wasn't totally ready to give it up but I figured if she was I was ok with it...

This was us, too. I was nursing DD first thing in the morning and last thing at night. At 10 months, she started refusing to nurse. At first I was upset, but after a few days I realized we were both happier.
