Security going into an interest account
Is there a law in NYS that lanlords need to put your security into an interest bearing account?

I thought this was standard...I know in the apartment (Heatherwood) we rented, and an apartment Dh rented (Fairfield) we got interest checks back.

What if you are giving your security to an individual not a management company. We would be renting from the owner of the unit. Would she have to put the money into an interest bearing account? If she does I want to make sure it is in my lease!

I would assume so. When I was in college (Binghamton), I rented from a person and we received interest.

I never heard of that! That would be cool but I doubt it will happen for me when I leave the house I'm renting.

Yeah, it isn't much. If it is a legal apartment, I would think they would have to. If it is an illegal apartment, probably not.
