Seaford SD?

Any thoughts on Seaford school district?

I got into a discussion with DH on potential towns for our forever house. DH and I are in education, so we know that a "good" district is somewhat subjective. I feel that most districts on LI are solid. But I literally know nothing about this Seaford. Thoughts?

Re: Seaford SD?

My ILs live in Seaford. Only DH went to the public school, his sisters went to Catholic school.

The only negative I have heard about the district is that the school budget does not always pass.

On occasion, you also hear people comment on drug issues, but c'mon, what school doesn't struggle with that these days?

This is one of the districts we would ultimately consider buying our "forever" home in though.

Lovely houses and it seems like a closeknit community, central to everything.

Re: Seaford SD?

I grew up in Seaford, and went to Seaford High (class of '94) and went to St. William's for elementary school. My parents still live in Seaford (I am in N. Bellmore now).

As a realtor, I cannot comment on whether a SD is "good," which as you acknowledged, is a subjective concept anyway.

But Seaford is a relatively small district - 2 elementary schools (Manor and Harbor) a middle school, and a high school. When I graduated, there were less than 200 students in my class. Seaford school district only goes up to Jerusalem Ave. Anything on the other side of Jerusalem is Levittown SD, or Plainedge, and further up it can even be Island Trees.

Many of my customers consider Seaford to be fairly comparable to surrounding school districts (Massapequa, Wantagh, Bellmore, etc.). So a lot of times, my customers will look anywhere from Merrick to Massapequa along the south shore, which is what I did when I was house hunting myself.

I liked growing up in Seaford - - it was convenient to major parkways and close to a lot of parks and beaches.

Let me know if you have specific questions about the area. I am happy to help!

Re: Seaford SD?

I graduated SHS. The only time that I can remember the budget not passing was once or twice when I was in elem school (late 80's early 90's) and maybe it passed on the second vote once when I was in HS.

i loved seaford. its a small(er) district which I thought was great - i literally knew everyone.

teachers were great, great athletics and activities, involved parents. not overly diverse but much of southern nassua in the area is not.

we actually chose a very similar district (Plainedge - North Massapequa). We looked in Seaford when buying but didnt find a home we loved.

Re: Seaford SD?

we just bought in seaford! i'm a teacher too, so schools were VERY important to me

seaford scores very well, and it's a small district which i like (dh and i came from a very large district)

the town itself is so tiny, and everyone seriously knows each other

the other thing i love about our town is that so many of the people here have been here for generations-people tend to stay in seaford forever, and there doesn't seem to be much "turn around"

Seaford is a great SD. DH grew up there and went to the schools, his mom works in the school system (not as a teacher). When we looked for houses we wanted Seaford, Wantagh or Plainedge. We ended up in Plainedge... but were open to any of them!
