Screaming Toddler?
Ds is 18 months old. He will all the sudden just start screaming in a playful way, but I want to teach him to use "inside voice" and that we don't scream. I don't mind once or twice in excitement but he purposely does it repeatedly. I know he's just playing but any ideas?

Re: Screaming Toddler?
no ideas but my dds do this all the time they are twins and will look at each other and just start going "aaaah" like they are singing and it will progressively get louder, but i tend to join in with them cause it cracks them up

Re: Screaming Toddler?
I make a really worried look and say "look look that baby/woman/man got scared! oh no! you scared him, he's going to come here and cry to you" he gets this look on his face "me? I did something that would make someone cry? Oh no they are coming to me?"
I don't know if your kid is as sensitive to strangers as mine. But I just have to tell him "that man is coming" and he gets all alert.
I try to invoke empathy for others. I find it hard to tell DS do something just because I said so... I think he's going to keep doing it to annoy me.
I try to find real reason, like it annoys the hell out of people and try to explain it in a way he'll understand.
I also play "can you whisper?" ... he can't but it gives him the idea of whisper, if and when he can, I plan to ask him to whisper a lot.
oh but give another option or expression excitement. I say "lets not scream, but we can jump! or we can clap!" or something that we can do then and there...
