School Trip Parents
Is this really unusual or is this the norm now...I got a letter from Noah's school discussing going on a class field trip to a farm, it asked for parents to volunteer, but only if they have a full CRB criminal records check.
I am disappointed as I would love to have gone along, but I have't got a CRB. I might have to get one if I want to help out in the school.
So is this the norm?

I haven't heard about that in our school. Sorry you can't go on the trip, that's a bummer.

Re: School Trip Parents
I work in a private school & all parents are required to do a 2 hour sexual abuse awareness class b4 doing any type of volunteer work w/ the kids (lunchroom, trips, work in the classroom, etc.). I "think" they also do a background check as well.

Yes. We can't volunteer for anything at the school (lunch mom, playground duty, class trips, etc.) unless we are Virtus trained and have the background checks completed. (It's a Catholic school). I completed the training (was like 1 hour, real quick) and had my background checks done. I have nothing to hide!

Re: School Trip Parents
I've never heard of that but I really wish our school did it. DD1 is in Kindergarten and I was lucky enough to have been picked to chaperone both school trips. I would feel a WHOLE lot better if this training/background check was done for all parents who volunteer to chaperone.

Re: School Trip Parents
I have never heard of that before. However, I have passed all background checks that I have ever had to complete so it would not be a problem if a school ever asked me to do so going forward. In NJ before you are permitted to sit for the the bar exam they finger print you.

Re: School Trip Parents
We don't require any background check for chaperoning a field trip.
We do require background checks for coaching jobs in the soccer league I chaired.

Re: School Trip Parents
Not yet mandated in our schools, but they will choose those parents first. All activities , PTA and coaches and stuff all have to have one. So if your involved in anything during the school you need one. It's really easy to do.

Re: School Trip Parents
Sorry you cant go - I would think this would be something that they would tell parents about at the beginning of the year. To tell you the truth I think its a good idea and would not object to it if our SD implemented something like this.
Our school does not require it. Cub Scouts requires specific training for all leaders that must be renewed every two years they also do a background check. Many sport leagues are starting to require background checks.
