scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
I am really upset. I got my c-sec date today its only 4 days before my regular due date. I went 15 days early with dd I'm doubting I'd make it to 4 days before my due date anyways. The thing is I'm fairly sure my ob is going away the week before and that is why they gave me 4 days before my due date. So now I am worried I'll get some ob who is on call that I don't even know. I can't actually plan anything since 4 days early is probaly unrealistic. I'm so aggravated!!

I would be very upset too! I am worried that my dr. wants to do mine one week before my due date- I have convinced myself that the baby is coming real early unlike DD who came right on her due date and needed and emergency c-sec.

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
I believe there is some sort of law now prohibiting them from SCHEDULING a c section more than 7 days from your due date..because I just went through the same thing with my doctors office..I was three weeks early with my first DC
however, if you do go into labor before hand, they will do the c section its just they can't "schedule" you more than a week in advance..so says the secretary at my doctors office whom I love!!

Crashing, but she's right. They passed a law to keep docs from scheduling sections too early to reduce the risk of complications associated with "full-term preemies." And you might not go as early with this one. I was three weeks early, and my sister was two days late.
I know that being unable to plan is a pain in the neck, but it's probably best for your baby.

This is true unless you have had a prior classical cesarean. You must be 39w (w a prior classical, it's 37-38w bc of the extreme risk of uterine rupture).

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
I know about the law. The thing is the reason they won't let me go one week early (7 days at 39w) is because my dr isn't on call! He is on vaca which really upsets me. So the earliest they can do my c-section is 4 days early . Now I have to worry who will do my section if I go into labor before my scheduled date which is likely. I love my ob but I'm really upset that he never hired a back up in the pratice it just seems so silly to me.

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
honestly, i wouldnt worry about it. i had an emergency c-section at 33w and my doctor wasn't even involved. i had massive complications, and the dr. who did do my cs saved my uterus. he could've easily done a hysterectomy since i was bleeding out (lost half of my blood volume) but he saw i was 29 and it was my first baby so he didn't, and he spent two hours getting out the placenta and getting me back together. if any other dr. did my cs who knows.
first off, you are not by any means guaranteed to go early just because you went early with the first.
secondly, you can always ask your doctor for the info on the doctors that are in his call-group, that way you can look them up or meet them. then if you do go early, you will at least know the person delivering you.
either way, it will be ok!

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
I understand. My dd was born 10 days before her due date and I ended up needing a c-section . My scheduled section this time is 2 days before my due date. I also figure I may go sooner than May 8 b/c I have a lot of extra fluid which can cause pre-term labor but I guess in the end it is what it I was also tyold that legally they can't go earlier than 39 wks unless for other specific reasons I am not sure of.

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
Oh - I'm glad I"m not the only one who had misunderstood that a scheduled c section had nothing to do with my schedule.
I actually thought it was the insurance companies (and not a law) that restricted them to only a week early.
I am very concerned about the thought of a dr. I don't like doing my surgery. I actually am scrambling to find out if a vbac is possible for me. I'm having some serious reservations about the surgery because I feel like its not about me at all - its about their schedules.

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
there is never a guarantee that your OB delivering your child. if your OB is a solo practitioner, if he or she is not on call the night you go into labor, you will get a different doctor delivering your child (mostlikely). yes, that stinks, but it happens more often than not. try not to let that stress you out because there is nothing you can do about it.
and yes, the scheduled c-section date is about the doctors schedule, unless there is an emergency. it's not about what is convenient for you, because doctors are held to a law and a standard about scheduling inductions and/or c-sections. it's just the way it is.

Re: scheduled c-sec only 4 days before due date
If it makes you feel ANY better (or if you just want a good laugh)... DD was born vaginally 2 years ago, but with the assistance of forceps etc. Ugh. This baby has a big head too (lol) and the OB said I could schedule a section, but she'd prefer I try to go naturally. So I asked when I could schedule a section for if we decide to go that route. Her answer? "Like 41+ weeks." Good LORD this baby better be here before then! lol. (DD was 3.5 weeks early.)
