safety help/inlaws house
we will be going to the inlaws house many times in the next 4 months but their house is very unsafe for the baby. they also have hard wood floors. our house was easily baby proofed and we have plush carpets. now that dd is so mobile (13 months) im worried about taking her there and getting hurt falling down. what can i buy for the floor and anything else safety wise to ensure shell be ok???

She will be fine on wood floors. We have wood floors (DD is 12 months) and she is fine. I would just make sure that any low tables are moved or have the cushioning on them and the outlets have the guards plugged in. If your DD is getting into cabinets, I would buy those cabinet locks and put on the ones that have chemicals, alcohol, etc. in them.

I personally wouldn't worry about the floors. My whole house is hardwood and my nephew who is 13 months and my cousin who is 10 months have been crawling and walking all over my house for months. They did show us what we needed to baby proof which was the outlets, so we bought covers and cabinets so we bought the child safety locks. We also made sure to pick up all of the animal toys and that bedroom and bathroom doors are shut. It was great training for when our 4m old gets mobile.

I wouldn't worry about the floors either. We have hardwood floors too, I just either have DS barefoot or with his sneakers on so he doesn't slip.

For our in laws house they put in the outlet plug things and soft corner things on tables. If there are areas you dont want DC to get into or near you might consider buying a baby gate...MIL was super excited about DD so I think she did a lot of common sense baby proofing her self that I dont even think about because we've never had to worry at their place.

I have hard wood floors and my DS has never been hurt because he fell. My parents have tile and he fell plenty when we visited and was never hurt.
Unless your DD is going to be there all the time I would not baby proof and just make sure you watch her.

My twins are 22 months & have wood floors...we do have area rugs but not that thick. I think she will be fine. Just make sure if no shoes that her socks have the grips on bottom

I think she will be fine. I have 3 kids the only baby proofing for the first 2 were outlet covers and then baby gates at the stairs. With the third I didn't do any (the outlets are safety outlets). I hate carpeting so I only have hardwood floors. I never had any issues.

My DS crawls around on our hardwood floors all the time. If you're worried you can always get those foam mats (the ones with the alphabet on), but they're only so big and it might be hard for you to keep your DC on them.

We have hardwood floors, there really is no danger. DS will crawl and walk on them. Ceramic or porcelin tile on the other hand I would be concerned about, but not wood.
