What are some memories you have as a kid during the holidays? Favorite things? Things you miss?

I just remember decorating the tree with my family while listening to xmas music......great times!

I remember the smell of melting plastic from the silver tinsel we draped all over the tree touching the very hot light bulbs...

I love watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! I still get up early & watch it!

I remember going to the 5 and 10 and choosing our Halloween costumes..............you know the ones!!.............cardboard box, plastic mask with a rubber band, and the plastic outfit that went over your clothes. My favorite was Wonder Woman!! lol

Remember when every department store had a giant holiday catalog?? A&S, Sterns, Sears, Macy's, etc. My favorite memory was sitting down on the living room floor with my siblings and cousins after Thanksgiving dinner and going through all of the store catalogs to make our Xmas list for Santa. We'd pour over every single page and make a list a mile long. It was so much fun!!!!

Of course, LOVED waking up and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

My Grandma use to work in Macy's for years so when we were little she use to get all of us whatever character that Macy's put out for the holiday season. I must have had like 10 Snoopy's, Mas from the Little Mermaid, and so many others!!

I LOVE everything about Xmas but my favorite was decorating the tree while listening to Xmas music. I remember when I was little trying so hard to fall asleep on Xmas Eve so Santa would come. And pizzelles. Aaaahhhhh, my favorite tradition. We use to make them at my Grandparent's house along with struffoli and all of the other Xmas cookies. On Xmas morning ALL I ate while opening my gifts was pizzelles, they were (and still are) my all time fav!!!!

I have SO many great memories of the holidays as a kid, I hope that I can pass down many good memories and traditions to my own children.

Thanksgiving Day parade and seeing Santa at the end! That was the official kick off to the Christmas holiday for us!
Also, decorating the tree was always fun as a kid. Even though I moved out at 21, I would go to my parents house every year to decorate with them.
Now with the twins...I don' think I'll go this year if my parents want a tree that isn't knocked over with broken ornaments.

waking up thanksgiving morning to the smell of the turkey cooking already.

My dad used to fill my stocking with raisinets every Christmas. That would wind up being my breakfast lol (my mom still gives me a box every year)

The whole family. Every holiday. Aunts, uncles, cousins - house full of people. Eating, drinking and laughing. How we fit so many in our house at once is beyond me. And my mom did it all.

Everyone was much closer then. We all lived in Brooklyn. Now, everyone is so spread out - it's close to impossible to do anything like that anymore.

Halloween - since my friends and me were always off on Nov 1 since we went to Catholic school we would always have a big sleepover and divvy up our pillow cases full of candy. My dad was a mailman in a wealthy area so we used to go tot to all the homes and condos. Our costumes looking back were so cheap and flammable but we thought they were awesome.

Thanksgiving - parade on tv then either stayed home for a small thanksgiving or went to a big family party with all the cousins. Same as pp would sit with the toy catalogues and make a mile long list.

Christmas Eve - big family party tons of gifts. We still have the party but now so secret Santa.

Christmas was always just us 3 and I'm get presents from Santa and the animals. I had a massive stocking so it would take me what seemed like forever to get through it. My mom or dad would always hide a special present in there like a piece of jewelry.

I love the holidays because of dd but they are hard because both of my parents have missed and the holidays are a reminder.

My favorite things were watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV to kick off the season.

Spending Christmas and Thanksgiving with my extended family. My family has gotten so big that no one really gets together any more besides parties & funerals.

Being able to say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Hanukkah" without the fear of offending someone.

I miss the pre-Black Friday mania. For real. I do NOT remember this as a kid. This is one thing I really wish would just go away.

Sadly as I sit here I don't miss anything from when I was a kid. Hope I can build a better memory for my family.

Halloween: shopping at woolworths for those plastic costumes. i can't believe i would get so excited about those things. i do remember one year i wanted to dress as a "woman"... my mother kept saying i could dress as a "gypsy" but not as a "grown woman"... whatever lol

Thanksgiving: the food cooking before we even got out of bed. the macy's parade. as i got older, i would wonder why our dinner table didn't look anything like what we would see on tv. we'd have a lot of ethnic foods... i didn't have sweet potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole until i was an adult.

Christmas: sadly, everything was always done for us. we never helped in anything. my mom was a SAHM and had everything done before we got home from school. i do remember pretending to believe in santa. i always knew it was my parents. i would put my "dear santa" letter on my mother's pillow... why waste a stamp when santa lives with me.

I loved the holiday season growing up. My mom made everything magical for us but my favorite memories are the people, the laughter and excitement.

I loved watching the Thanksgiving parade in my parents bed while my mom cooked and the house smelled amazing.

I loved christmas eve. I remember running out side in my beautiful christmas dress barefoot to greet my grandparents. Their entire trunk would be filled with gifts.

My grandpa loved christmas so much. He would turn his entire den into a Christmas wonderland. He had all those little villages and he would spend hours setting it up. I use to love helping him.
