Ryan's 2nd Xmas in the hospital
We are most definitely not looking to make this a Christmas tradition, but unfortunatley Ryan spent his 2nd christmas in the hospital with a crazy random thing called AHEI. Acute Hemmorhagic Edema of Infancy. Commonly follows upper resp. infection or immunizations, both of which he had the week prior. I'll post pics when I get a minute, the rash was awful adn they thought he had meningitis and treated him for such - including spinal tap and major doses of the strongest antibiotics via IV and 5 days in the hospital. Within 5 hours of arriving at the ER the kid had an IV in each arm, a chest Xray, catheter, his temp taken rectally like 100 times and then the dreaded spinal. Thank GOD it was not what they feared, but it took 4 days to rule out that diagnosis and the waiting was the worst. We are home now and he is OK for the most part - the rash is starting to fade but now he sounds kinda croupy to me. not sure i want him on steriods to fix that but we're doing nebs every 4 hours. I can't believe his 2nd christmas was in the same hospital as last year.
I hope all the little ones who are feeling bad make speedy recoveries and  to all the moms and dads. I HATE this time of year!!!!!!!!!

Oh that's terrible! I am glad that it wasn't such a bad diagnosis but I feel so bad that you all had to go through all the testing. I hope DS is better soon!

Oh no, poor baby. I hope he recovers quickly, and may you never again have to spend Christmas in the hospital!!!
