Russia to halt Georgia war

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced Tuesday that he has ordered an end to military operations against Georgia, but Georgia reported more Russian attacks after the statement was made.
The announcement came minutes before French President Nicolas Sarkozy was to land in Moscow to meet with Medvedev to negotiate terms for a possible cease-fire.
“I have reached a decision to halt the operation to force the Georgian authorities to peace,” Medvedev said. “The aggressor has been punished and has incurred very significant losses. Its armed forces are disorganized.”

the AGGRESSOR??? um hello... am i a complete moron or did russia not attack georgia?? and all because they wanted to join NATO

From what Iunderstand, that's part of their motives, but South Ossetia broke away from Georgia (to be independant, not to join Russia), and Georgia tried to get it back, so they did start military operations first, but it was within their own country.
Russia claims that it was an attack on Russian people ( other people feel Russia just wants back some of the land the Soviet Union had), since many of them live there, so then they attacked, making it an internatinal issue, not just a Georgian one, and then basically attacking the whole country, not just the part where the original issue is.
that the violence is really over.
