Runners, Please Come in..

Ok, here I go.

I plan in Jan. (or even sooner) to start the couch to 5K program.
My Goal: Run a 5k in April and keep on signing up!

My question: Where do you buy your sneakers. I'm in western suffolk.
Any "running stores" around rather than Modell's or Sports Authority?

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Also, I have had pulled knee ligaments and ended up in knee braces 2x.

Should I be wearing an ace bandage or brace or anything to help support my knee and not damage it..Again?

Sorry this is so long.

TIA for your help!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good running shoes are very important. Try runner's edge in farmingdale.

No advice on the sneakers as I am still searching for the perfect pair but I'd like to start up again in January too!

Dawn - go to the Runner's Shop in Huntington or the New Balance store next door - I asked them all my questions and they helped me!!!

What 5K are you planning to do? Do you know yet? Chat Icon

While you should invest in good running sneakers, as long as you know the "type" you need (i.e stability, motion control, neutral, etc), you can get them elsewhere. I find I run best in asiscs gels and actually get them from kohls for an amazing price! I plan on going black friday and stocking up since they'll be $35!

Dawn-you already got some great advice here so i won't reiterate...but i do have second the good running sneakers and i love super runners shop in huntington. they are so nice and helpful there!
also wanted to add that i think it's so great you want to do the C25k!Chat Icon i know running can be hard on the body but you don't have to go crazy. i've never had knee issues (knock on wood thank goodness) but i would do a little research on the best way to prevent knee injury etc. while running.
i'll go out with you and "run" whenever you want! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wear these too and love them! I usually get them at DSW at a great price but I will be checking out Kohls too, that is a great price!

Re: Runners, Please Come in..

You can definitely buy running sneakers at Dicks or SPorts Authority! HOWEVER just go to the running store to get fitted. They will look at at how you walk and run and decide if you are flat footed or have a high arch - or neither!

I'd say a good pair of running shoes usually goes for $100. I know you can get a decent pair for cheaper and and can get them on sale, etc so definitely shop around. Dont feel you have to buy at the running store. Just write down all the names and style of the shoes and shop around!

ITA, I finally found my magic running shoe, so to speak and I buy them at ****'s but they also sell them at Foot Locker.
