RSofNY in stonybrook

I go to RsofNY (stonybrook) and although i think they are overall wonderful, I feel uncomfortable dealing with Dawn the Nurse Practitioner.
My first dealing with her was when i found out i was preg and went in for my second beta. My first beta was 30. She told me she would be happy to see anything over 100 for my second beta. The nurse Fran (love her) called me up and congratulated me saying my numbers more than doubled to 76 and was happy! I was devestated bc of what Dawn told me.
Anyway i let that pass and today was my second encounter with her. I am 6wks5day pregnant. I went in for my second sono and bloodwork. The sonographer showed me a flicker of the heartbeat. The sonographer couldnt get a measurement and told me 2 days will make a big difference and come in again on friday. I then had blood drawn and was called in by Dawn to discuss the results.
The first thing she said was your measuring much smaller than we normally see and not to get my hopes up. She then went on just saying things i cant even remember because i got myself SOO upset. She was supposed to give me a script of prenatals which she didnt. I just walked out of there feeling like i did when i was told in may that i was miscarrying.
I called my dh and was bawling telling him what happened. Dh came to the rescue and called Susan (the np i usally see) and she looked over my chart and said everything was progressing nicely and im just measuring a few days smaller than textbook. She told him it was normal and well see in a couple of days if we have a stronger heartbeat. If we dont then ill go in again on monday.

i got myself so worked up. I just wanted to know if anyone who goes to RSofNY has had any exp like mine with Dawn. Am i being too sensitive?

I went to RSOFNY for both of my pg's.....Dawn is definately a little rougher around the edges than Susan, I think maybe thats her personality - so your not alone in your thinking I'm sure...With that being said- there were certain times when iI felt more comfortable hearing things from her as opposed to Susan and vice versa- it depended on the sitaution if that makes any sense...the same way, Dr.Cain & Dr.San Roman and Stelling dealt with things very differently (the realist, the hand holder and the joker , as I call them) ...

Ironically, when I went through my IUI's when I conceived my DS, I was there with Dawn for my injection lesson to begin IVF ( back then it was one on one) because I was certain my last IUI didnt work and she looked at me and said "I have a good feeling" , I want you to POAS...I rolled my eyes and said " well, your wasting your time, but OK" and sure enough, I was pg...Not that this story has anything to do with how she spoke to you, but just wanted to share that maybe she does have a softer side in there ...Unfortuanetly it seems that in most medical professions, the Dr.'s and nurses become too callous and forget that its real people and real emotions that they are dealing with and not just conditions... Good Luck- i bet everything will be great

I actually left them b/c of her in a way. I had seen her for my last 2 IUI's (I did 3) and on the 3rd one I was doing I had questions. She would not even talk to me about it. I told her I didn't want to do #4 without speaking to an RE. I needed a better plan b/c I am turning 40 soon and it was taking too long...yadda yadda yadda and all she said to me was that Dr. SanRoman said that I had to do 4 and that was that. I was really annoyed. I guess that was the beginning of the end there for me. I did not like the way she was talking to me.

AnnMarie, I hope you are ok!

I love Susan and of course, Fran is my favorite, Dawn is ok, a little rough around the edges.

If you end up seeing her again, don't be afraid to ask to see a dr or speak with Susan if she is there. Don't worry about offending her, you are there for your own health and welfare, not hers.
